Hey everyone, today my son started on the ritalin LA, we had him on the normal ritalin 10 and that seemed to do nothing but make him irritable, is anyone else's children on Ritalin LA? and have you had success with it? How long does it normally last? The doctor told me nothing about it he just put him on and said this should be more benifical for him.
I do like the idea that he only has to take it once a day though it makes it so much easier with taking meds to school all the time, he doesnt like the big capsule though but he was used to the tiny ritalin 10 tablets, at least he won't get a yukky taste in his mouth from these ones, when i used to give him the other tablets they would start to break down in his mouth so he'd spit it in the glass which was a pain in the butt coz then i had to get him another one and he did it so regulary so every time i went to the chemist they always looked at me weird because they always said i should have some left or the repeat wasnt due to be filled for another couple of weeks.
anyway thanks in advance for your input its greatly appreiated!
My son started on Ritalan LA when he was 5 - partly because it was his first experience with taking a pill. You can pull them apart & mix it with applesauce.
His experience with it was that he cried at the drop of the hat - we couldn't even call him for dinner without him crying. We took him off that & moved on to adderall - i think. we've tried so many i can't recall.
My 11 year old son takes 20mg of ritalinSR on school days only. It is the Canadian version of ritalinLA. It works well for him. Previously we tried regular ritilin and DexedrineSR. He was 7. He had too many negative side effects. i have another question now on friday night he threw up can that be caused by the med change? When my son first went on stimulants his dose of adderal was too high and the first day he threw up. I know they can cause stomach upset.......
