testing for adhd | ADHD Information

My dh is going to the doctors monday for some tests. We are pretty sure it's adhd. What kinda of tests should be done in order to diagnosis it correctly? Any feed back would be great. Does medication really help? He is going to a mind clinic, they will be attaching things to his head. Anybody else had a similiar test?

What kinda of doctor is it?

I first saw a nueropshyc at age 10 and then age 15 and age 35.  A long battery of test including an eeg (wires and all), some type of sleep test (wires and all), lots of written tests, computer tests, eye tests,  a whole battery of tests...........

The proper medication helped a lot, in my case anyway!!!  It is frustrating sometimes to do all the testing and then wait for results, but I suppose it is neccesary!!!  It used to intimidate me when I was younger cause I always knew they were going to find something wrong that would lead to lots of follow up and treatments.

Now I take it in stride when I talk to the docs.  I don't see them as the enemy anymore!!

Thanks, I totally understand the way you explained it. Thanks for the great feed back.

That's a good question??  I don't know if they compare the tests or not - I kinda of zone out when the medicial talk starts!!!  I will ask my doctor the next time I see him if you want?

I imagine some abnormalities might not be concerning, I would relate it to the heart ekg, some people have different patterns of T waves, you get a baseline and see if it fluctuates over each test.  If the abnormality is not changing or they don't think it is fluctuating - they call it clinically insignificant.  I hope I explained that so you understand.  I imagine it might be similar with eeg's.

I think there is debate on how eeg's are used to see if you have adhd?  Someone else will correct me if I am wrong.  Good luck.

thanks for the humor....maybe one day when I can deal this with disorder I might  laugh.

right now its not too funny

I think the eeg is what will be done. Was there any change in your tests? As you got older were the results same or did they flucuate at all. He had an eeg done about 8 years ago. They said then that there was a slight abnormality but nothing to be concerned about. I would think any kind of abnormality might be of concern. I'm wondering if they compare this one to the last one if there will be much difference. thanks for the feedback...he is going to a neurologist.one type of test is where they hold a book up close to your face and you have to watch the red laser dot and see where it goes and keep up with it and then they smack the back of the book and hit you in the face

Just kidding
HAHAHAHA
