I have frequently heard that in particular Mozart is beneficial in a cognitive sense.

My ADHD son (17) has always loved music.  While his tastes and what he composes are quite eclectic, he has enjoyed listening to classical music in his room since he was quite young.   Classical music calms him and now he uses repetitive techno music while he does homework on the computer.  He used to be distracted by auditory input, but now he says this type of music helps for some types of  homework.  (The repetitive driven tempo of techno drives me nuts!) 

Music has been a part of his life since he was an infant.  Early on I could see the rhythm in him and I just continued to offer opportunities to him when I would see an interest...  Mommy and Me classes, Yamaha preschool programs,  all kinds of dance classes from pre-school  up  through middle school (jazz, tap, ballet, salsa, swing  and ballroom), piano, cello and sax(just one year). 

While music is an important part of his life, he still has difficulty maintaining a consistent even tempo.  Yamaha Parent and Child program offers a total music approach developing rhythm, ear training, song, body movement, voice, notation and keyboard. It was great fun.  Playing the piano developed coordination in both hands.  Reading music was extremely difficult considering his visual processing is very low.  I am sure it probably helped exercise that area of the brain.

Check out Therapeutic Listening...this uses classical music in a therapeutic manner. Many OTs and Speech Paths offer this.Does anyone have any info. on music therapy? My son,Alex, seems much calmer when listening to classical music and I know there must some good info. out there on how music may help. Anyone else have a son or daughter who enjoys music also?
