Son new to Adderall XR and I have a ?? | ADHD Information
My son started Adderall XR this week. He is 6.
I am just wondering if it takes a while for the medicine to take effect? Do they have to reach a therapeutic level?
I am just nervous as he started Kindergarten today and I am worried about him being able to focus and his impulsivity.
my 8 year old is on it. He too had a tick in the first few weeks, but it went away. he's doing great now.
My son has been on Adderall XR for about 8 weeks now. We found immediate results. He did have a tic (it was a cough) for about 3 weeks but it went away. Now he is just a little moddy but most of the symptoms have disapeared. He has not started school yet though, so that might bring on some new challenges. We just added a fast acting dose of Adderall (5mg) that we give him at 4pm and will soon be starting him on Omega-3. Good luck with the Adderall. I would say that if you don't see results right away that it might not be a high enough dose.
HI, my son is 13 and has been on the XR for quite a while now. He does extremely well, and I would agree that 'playing' with the dose is helpful. We do notice that it seems better to have a higher dose during school, with 5 mg as soon as he's home, so that he can focus on homework. Adderall XR has really worked for us with few if any side effects. Good luck. Keep in touch with your doctor and teacher. It's probably good that you started before he started school, as it gives all of you a chance to see the effects.It takes about a half hour to an hour to start working.
Hi, My son just started taken Adderall xr. He has been on it for a week now. I have seen a Big differnce since he has been on it He did get sick the first night and a few stomach aches but they have gone away now. Now I'm just waiting for him to start back to school and see how that goes. He goes back to see the Doc Sept 5th she wants to see how he is doing. plus I have an appoint for my other son.
My son takes this and does quite well. If the dosage is correct you should see results within one hour to one and a half. This med helped a great deal with his ability to focus and complete his work...he still is a bit impulsive and will forget to raise his hand sometimes during a class discussion but we are working on that.
My son has been on regular Adderall for 2 years sucessfully. We tried Adderal XR for 2 weeks and he started sleepwalking every night around 10:30. We took him to his psychiatrist, and she'd never seen him so wound up, and then he had a meltdown right there in her office. Needless to say, we switched him back to regular Adderall.When my daughter started using Adderrall, we saw some immediate improvement. She seemed very sullen at first (which I did not like)and it took some time for her body to adjust. Her focus was greatly improved, however her sleep and eating habits declined and did not improve. She now takes Stratterra.
