DS pulling out his eyelashes | ADHD Information

Trichtillomania.  He is welcome to my baldy club!  I do that, but no, not really on my head though, but it can go there.  I also have OCD.  It is an anxiety disorder.  I do it when I'm nervous, I do it when I'm not.  Just have to have something to do sometimes.  Can't keep still, release of energy, or nevous energy.  See, lots of reasons!   There is lots of info out there on trich and kids of you do a google.  Whatever you do, don't make a deal out of it AT ALL.  It will embarass him and make him even more nervous.  Trust me on this one!

Our neighbor was doing this to her brows and hair for a while. Her mother tried to redirect the activity to something that does not show so much (she was getting teased in school-making things worse). As the anxiety was handled, the activity was more easily diverted to other less noticable activities. Look into Trichtillomania like calicorose said and dealing with the underlying anxiety. Good luck with this.

Is your son on any ADHD meds?  Stimulants can exacerbate anxiety.

About 6 months ago my ds started pulling out his eyelashes. When I would catch him doing this I would ask him to stop doing that. Or get his mind on something else. I never made a great big deal about it cause he would get really upset. It finally stopped.
After pulling out every single lash top and bottom on both eyes.  Well about 2 weeks ago he started doing it again. This time besides his lashes he is pulling out his eyebrows, arm hairs, legs and even looking at my legs for hairs. Needless to say I try to keep my legs shaved. I noticed his right eye is bare again. I'm not sure if he does this because he is nervous or what? But he also chews on eveything in site. (i mean everything) Just wondering if someone has had same experience or know something about it. I don't know if the two go hand in hand or not?

My son when younger would chew on his pencils at school !

My daughter (biploar) shaved her eyes brows a few times but never gave a reason!

I think there is actually a disorder that people pull out their hair...I cannot think of the name right at the moment but you may want to check this out with your doctor.
