help! He’s talking and he won’t shut up!! | ADHD Information

My undiagnosed daughter is like this (drives me crazy some days). Is it posible that before the concerta his thoughts were too fast and jumbled to communicate as much? Now with a low dose of concerta he can communicate his thoughts (his mouth better keeps up with his mind), though the thoughts are still to fast for a "normal" person to deal with. Results with the stimulants should be seen quickly (days not weeks), whereas the strattera takes weeks. When do you see the doctor again (my ADHD daughter originally was seeing the doctor every week for med adjustment)?

Hopefully others on the board will have some insight. Good luck and keep posting your experience.

vickie38950.7106712963Wendi, this is NOT normal.  I'd be concerned that his constant talking is a symptom of mania brought on by the stimulant.  Please check in with your son's doctor.  If he's not seeing a board-certified child psychiatrist, I'd recommend an evaluation with one.

I actually smiled when I saw your post!! You worded it just right This is my first post and my son talks excessively too!! Some days it is just non stop!! Today he is working on a puzzle and is actually quite! We just started on Stratera 1 week ago and I was told it takes a least 3 weeks to see results!! I hope I have made the right decision!!

Best of Luck with the medication!!!!

Stratera did that to my son too.  he's not on it any more.

Hi, I hear you about being leary of stimulants but I actually am more leary of Strattera.

I would give the stims a chance before you quit. THe one posting about perhaps now his thoughts are clear and now he can  communicate is EXACTLY the case for an adult I know! Her anxiety actually got BETTER because her thoughts were clear and she could have a conversation without forgetting the topic etc. (the excessive talking did wear off after a couple weeks but she feels so much more clear headed!)

My son is a motor mouth when he is NOT on meds so I do feel for you. I would give it at least a few weeks. Unlike Strattera however, stims do leave the system quickly, and do show results quickly. I am leary of Strattera as its along the lines of a paxil/zoloft that take weeks to show results and weeks to leave the system. GOod luck, its such a tough thing I know!

HELP!! I finally agrees to put my eight year old on a stimulate. He was on 30 mg. Stratera, it but didn't seem to do much. Now he's been on 18mg. Concerta for three days. I swear it has made him worse! He is more of a motor mouth than ever. He won't shut up!!!!

Is this "normal" or do I need to try something else? This was a huge step for me to even to a stimulant type drug. I'm so leary of all the side effects. Hope someone can help~ or I'll have to buy ear plugs!

Seems like my son's doc told us that we wouldn't see the effects of changing meds for a couple of weeks.  I feel your pain!

Motor mouth, I like that. I know  it's not that funny, my Rebecca talks all day long, sometimes wonder how she falls asleep at night. But she was always a talker, even before she was dx and on meds. It has not changed her talking at all.

I was hoping to hear Stratera helped with the excessive talking!
