Looking For Advise.... | ADHD Information

Hi All!

I'm new here, so I may need a little help finding my way around.

My best friend has 3 children who struggle, each a little different from the other. She is a wonderful person, who is really going through a hard time right now. I'm hoping to find some advise and support that I can offer her.

One of her children has been diagnoed with Aspergers, and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. A sweet little guy that's hurting an awful lot because of being so rejected from his peers.

With school beginning next week for them, anxiety is high, and hope is low. Any advise for a friend who would do anything to help....

Welcome Tina. I think you concern for your best friend and her children is very heart warming. The first thing this family needs is a support system and a good friend like you that will be there to be emotionally supportive is invaluable to families who are facing such challenges.

Its very normal for the parents to have high anxiety when the children are entering school but please know that there is a lot of hope and a lot of help out there. With the right interventions and a good treatment plan, these children have a great shot at quality of life. Of course these children will always have struggles and challenges that other children won't have but the earlier the parents get effective treatment and the right interventions, the better the outcome.

If you want to help, be a shoulder to lean on or cry on and a good listener. Also encourage the parents to educate themselves as much as they can about these disorders and be proactive in the school system in terms of getting the child the help that he needs. The more knowledge they acquire about these two disorders, the less they will fear because they will come to realize that the future doesn't have to look so grim. Parents are their children's best advocates and they could never rely on the school to do whats best for their children. Parents know what is best for their children and in a collaborate effort with the school and the child's doctor, very positive strides are made

Thank you so much for the encouraging words luvmykids02, I'm feeling more hopeful already.  I can only imagine how hearing what you've had to say, and what others who share these concerns might be able to offer, would make her feel.  She is in such need of a major HOPE booster.

Her children are pretty on the outside, but they are BEAUTIFUL on the inside, really wonderful kids.  I'm so hoping to find a place where she can get some good advise, and encouragement/hope from others experiences.

Thanks again, the world is a better place because of folks like you....
