Trouble in Kindergarten | ADHD Information

My son just started kindergarten 2 weeks ago.  I put him in private kindergarten b/c there are only 9 kids in the entire class so I thought that might benefit him in many ways.  However, almost everyday I've received a note of some sort telling me about an outburst or a meltdown he had that day.  Fridays started b/c he couldn't have a 3rd serving at lunch so he screamed and thew a chair.  Today he went into meltdown mode after he had to get off the computer to do some work.  He tried 1 section and put his pencil down and said he couldn't do it.  After help and encouragement from his teacher, he just gave up and things escalated to the point where he spit at his teacher and had to go to the office to cool off.  He does not behave this way at home so my methods of coping with his behavior aren't necessarily working at school.  .  I have him in OT to help with his writing skills and I hope that will improve his self esteem in his classwork.  I am afraid that he will be spending too much time in the office if I don't help him learn to control himself.  His teacher is open to any suggestions I might have.  sorry to write so much I'm just needing a little advice please!!

I would consider some play therapy to see if that might help express his feelings in a more appropriate manner.  My son had some behaviors very similar and play therapy has been very beneficial.

The play therapist might also be able to work with the school to provide helpful ways to work with your son.  Mine worked with me and the school to find things to help him with transitioning from one activity to another.

Another thing would be to have the teachers take note when he has his breakdown and watch for possible situations to arise in order to nip in the tail before they occur.
