My son is almost 8 and ever since before he was born I knew in my heart that he was not going to be an easy child to raise. When my son was 2 days old they diagnosed him as being a colic baby.  He never slept and still to this day he does not sleep good.  He takes forever to fall asleep and when he does go to sleep he is constantly turning around in his bed and literaly sleeps with half his body off the bed.

He has been on medicine since the age of 2 1/2 since he was diagnosed with adhd and either the meds make him violent or they work for a little while and then stop working. At the age of 4 he was put into a pshyc. hospital because he came after me we a knife and said he was gonna kill me.  I lost it at that point.  At the age of 5 he was diag with bipolar NOS (not otherwise specified).  The doctor prescribed seroquel for him that med did work up until he was about 7.  His father and I noticed that his eyes were becoming blood shot from the med so he was taken off of it.  He was then put on dexedrine it did good but we noticed that it stopped working also he was not violent anymore but he was and still is out of control.  We go and see a new doctor next week becasue i feel like my son might have more anxiety then he does the adhd due to the fact of how he acts.i know he has seperation anxiety.

I guess my question is if a child has seperation anxiety could is be possible that he has other forms of anxiety or is sepearaion anxiety part of the adhd and bipolar diag?

Also i know alot of people say their children dont eat alot when take adhd meds but that is not true at all for my son he wants to eat all the time. He will eat a good breakfast but 5 minutes after eating he wants more food and will eat 24/7 if we allow him to. Could this also be a sign of anxiety?  to me it is like he is feeding his nerves.  Anxiety issues was never brought up at any of the doctors my son has seen and i am hoping that this new one will address the anxiety issues.

This may be a really dumb question but have you had a physical workup on him done? Have they ever tested him for apnea? I just stumbled on something about kids needing their tonsils out can look like ADHD, that's why I am asking. Colic usually has some kind of cause, there isn't even a word for it in other cultures. I have no doubt that your son has a severe condition but have they ruled out everything else?

Much sympathy, these kids are tough. Hang in there. My daughter had her tonsils removed a year ago due to them being enlarged.  As to your question regarding anxiety I do not know I would look up information and read up on anxiety.  For constand eating could it be bordem?  If your child is not active or not a lot to do can be bordem also can depression and food is the comfort.  I am not the expert only guessing, good luck and when you see the new doctor write your questions and concerns down for him/her.
