IEP?? 504?? HELP | ADHD Information

My extremely ADHD 9 year old 3rd grader is just getting back into school and we are trying to figure out what is going to work best for her.... She is on 30mgs of Focalin in the am..... I am meeting with teacher and guidance on Friday, I asked about an IEP, because before we moved this summer her last school thought she might need it "next year at your new school" This is the first year she is getting letter grades, so I am seeing a quick decline, Can anyone tell me the difference between what the guidance teacher thought we should start with (504) and an IEP???
