My son is 7 years old. He has been on Adderall XR 15 mil. for a year now and I think I will have get him on a higher dosage soon. The medication works ok for the hyperness but it is not so good when it comes to him being able to stay focused for a long period of time. The Adderall exstended release is out of his system when he gets home at 6pm to do his homework. I spend a good hour and a half frustrated with him. He is a smart child, he catches on quickly when he takes the time to focus on what he is doing. Is there any type of medication out there to use that will last a full 12 hrs, or will he have to take the medication twice a day. I only want what is best for my son I don't want him to go through what I went through when I was in school with ADD.
jovette38259.5865625Adderall did not work well for our son either, but Strattera has been great. It lasts all day, but others tell me it did not work for them at all.Thank you.
I will try it and see what happens I have a Doc. app. next month.
we had to get medication that is not time released because even if my 5 year old took all of the medication it would wear off during after school care and then I would get the dreadful phone call.
we switched his meds a week ago to the new chewable (he can't swallow pills and he knew it was in his drink and wouldnt drink in the morning) this seems to work i crush the med and put it in his cereal if he gives me a hard time about taking it, and around 1 pm the office gives him another dose they school gives him special treats so he doesnt think that it is his meds....
Perhaps you could try and have him complete his homework with the carer that is looking after him up until 6:00pm! Could you arrange this. He might be pretty tired by this time of night and it would be nice for you both if you could spend that time just enjoying one anothers company.I will look into to that. My son goes to the boys and girls club, they might set aside some time that he will be able to do some of his homework there. I do want to be active in help him do his homework too.
Thanks
