Strattera: I need assistance | ADHD Information
My son was recently increased to 18mg from 10mg. He is acting out, violent outbursts, and has begun talking back. He is 4 years old. I called the doctor and he says I am not giving the increase a chance.. Please tell if anyone has had this problem with an increase in it. I am desperate for guidance.A few points -
1) You did the right thing to speak to your doctor.
2) Strattera is not officially approved for kids under 6 years old. So, ideally your doctor is treading lightly (and clearly balancing risks and benefits).
3) Occassionally, these kinds of 'paradoxical reactions' (i.e. they give the opposite of what they should) can happen.
Will giving it more time make this reaction go away?
Maybe, but maybe not.
Remember - even though the doctor is the doctor - you are the mom and your know your child much better.
If it is too much - call the doctor again...

Deanna,
I am so sorry to hear that!
I hope that he is OK.
Please make sure to have the doctor(s) report that side effect so that it is documented. I am not aware that seizures are a common side effect for strattera and it is important that the fda/eli lilly have documentation of it so that it can be tracked going forward (i.e. if there are a significant number of these events, then they will have to change the labelling or add a warning for seizures).
Best of luck to your son and your family.
Kenny
p.s. I always try to remember that 'mother's know best' when it comes to concerns with medicine
Thank you. Strattera is now gone. My 4 year old was committed to the hospital for a medication seizure brought on by the strattera.
