A Cause Of My Own | ADHD Information

Thanks Pieta Pan!
I think I will aim to do something along that line.  I have an interest in literacy causes so I will start there.
Thanks again!!!I like to cover myself in blankets and play my psp under the blankets. it
kinda calms me down. That and i hyperfocus on painting.

addme - you are hyperfocusing on the wrong part of the solution!

Why start a new cause when there are so many already out there?  How do you know you won't fit in?  The only thing charities care about is that you are there.  They don't discriminate - it's counterproductive.

You could :

Donate time to a local chapter of CHADD (they do ADHD work)

Donate time to a local non-profit mental health clinic (they won't mind you having ADHD - you have to be crazy to be there! LOL)

Hand out food at the local food bank

on and on and on...

Creating a charity is a lot of planning and attention to detail.  You would set yourself up for a major fall if you slip.  Let someone else build the framework and give your energy to that!

whoops. i think that i responded to the post wrong.
Any ideas on what an ADHDer can do to create an environment that makes him/her feel apart of life? I don't mind volunteer work but I am sure I won't fit into "their" environment. How can I start a cause of my own. I am not looking to start an ADHD non-profit but something more generic. Any ideas?
How about the Center for Creative Causes?

Why join an existing cause when you can create a new one!!!

That's what we're all about, ya know. ADHDers are Creative Crazy.

Always re-inventing the wheel.

But that's okay.

We'd be in the dark without it.
As for how to create the environment,

shut out the shouters.

They're only jealous, anyway.

I work with adults with intellectually disabilities. I would guess that many of our staff have ADD/ADHD. You would fit in as everyone is a misfit

I've been doing it for going on 13years and love it. I work with challenging behaviours so it get the adrenalin rush I crave and they are all good fun to be out in public with.

(the majority of normal people are uncomfortable around my guys)

GlenW:
What great advise!  Thanks...I will totally look into those options.
AddMeideas?  no, not really AddMe.

i am in the same boat - i love to help people and often do volunteer work with homeless or similar.  often the projects are run through the church i go to and they are usually fairly sympathetic toward my addled-ness but any form of corporate voluntary work - i end up feeling i am likely to do more harm than good just by being ADD and effing something up!

at the moment i clean my local church every Friday morning - i am an excellent cleaner (it's one of the few things i can actually do)!  so that's not too hard.  i don't know.  any advice you get - pass it this way!
Any ideas on what an ADHDer can do to create an environment that makes him/her feel apart of life?  I don't mind volunteer work but I am sure I won't fit into "their" environment.  How can I start a cause of my own.  I am not looking to start an ADHD non-profit but something more generic.  Any ideas?
