HELP ME -- Adderall & ACNE | ADHD Information

I have a huge zit right under my lip that takes forever to go away. Also I have noticed strange skin discolorations (nothing major, but I notice it) that happends on my arms. I never associated it with adderall, but now that I think about it, I've had it since I've started on it. 40mg a day just gave me the zit, but now I'm on 20mg three times a day! Holy sh*t, whats next?Wow, I have been having the same problem and didn't make the connection to Adderall. My face, arms, and back look like hell. Plus, I'm not used to having issues either, so I keep making it worse by messing with them.

Hi...

New to this forum -- found it b/c I was surfing the web looking to see if Adderall had the side effect of Acne.  I just turned 25, NEVER had zits and now basically have full blown acne.

I've been taking Adderall on again off again (never off for more than 2 months) for 3 years.  Recently I went off of zoloft to just Adderall and I have terrible breakouts... very embarassing.  I just made an appointment with my dermatologist and hope to get on Accutane.  Gross but, it has even effected my back and chest -- with painful nodules... and A LOT of them too.  It seems to be getting worse and worse..

Anyone have a guess as to what is going on with my insides???  lol, but apparently something is off balance and it needs to get fixed, quick!  I'm a professional and this is not working... Talk about depressing.  I almost need to go BACK on Zoloft b/c I'm down in the dumps with these horrible blackheads - whiteheads - nodules.  Ewwwwwwwww (I know)!!!!!

I appreciate ANY thoughts / advice, etc.

Thank You

I have the same problem, I'm guessing it is the stimulant in adderall that causes acne. I think Adderall is as close to illegal speed as it gets. I've notice in people who have a drug abuse background also have bad skin it must be the salts that are in it I'm not sure. I have acne from adderrall and nothing eles I sort of just connected the two. Your not alone!

I had bad acne all through my HS years and now take great pains to keep my face clean and clear.   After about 2 weeks on Concerta, my face is breaking out. Not really bad, but any breakout is bad for me.   Is there something else that I can do to keep this from happening?   Besides the normal face washing etc...

I have read that adult acne is often caused by liver problems.  Perhaps the adderall is negatively affecting your liver.  I am 31 and never had zits in school or in 20's (When I was PG there was the occassional breakout) but since I started adderall in January I get HUGE zits!  There aren't the ones you can pop either!  This is not something that I feel is good since I am a server and I hate that people look at me, I keep thinking, I know they are staring at Mt. St Helen's on my cheek!  I never even thought about adderall causing it.  My hands also have been nothing but a rash for about three weeks, not that I'm going to complain about that, my hubby has been doing dishes!  But I thought I would tell you that my liver is absolutley great, (blood work done last week, all functions normal) so what the heck is going on! I LOVE my adderallxr!  I have tried a health remedy for acne which really works well for me.  I put a little colloidal silver on my skin when I break out.  It clears right up.  Colloidal silver is silver in fine particles.  You can find it in health food stores.  I don't know about consuming it which some people do.  I'm a little leary of that.  But it is a natural antibiotic.I'm sure you have found a solution to your acne problem by now, but I've
been having the same problem as everyone else. Not really any acne as a
teenager, a few pimple around that time of the month and that was about
it. I have very sensitive skin, so I honestly thought I was having a severe
allergic reaction to something. BUT, of course, it turned out to be the
Adderall. Does anyone know why this is not listed as a side effect of
adderall? My skin was at the point that I could barely wash it or touch it,
much less stand to look at it! My dermatologist gave me doryx 2x a day
(oral anti-biotic), ClindaMax (an antibiotic lotion), and told me to use
Cetaphil to wash my face.
Amazingly enough, I am NOT willing to go off the Adderall. I was just
diagnosed about 6 months ago at the age of 30 and Adderall has opened
an entire new world for me! I never knew that other people functioned so
differently (or really why they did). Now I can remember appointments,
conversations, and plans. I can sit though a conversation or a movie! I
can organize and pack without breaking down and crying for an hour out
of sheer frustration. I was a special education teacher and Adderall has
made me realize how frustrating some things must have been for my
students, but I had no idea, because I didn't know that things could be
any different anymore than they do. Its wild.
But, back to the point, is anyone else sticking to the Adderall in spite of
the HORRIBLE acne (which I hope will go away soon)?Wow, I have been having problems with acne too. I had not connected it to the adderall. No way am I giving up the adderall though.
