If she has a speech delay and hyperactive behavior, she more likely has autistic spectrum disorder than ADHD and should see a NeuroPsych. I can give you several links to teach you a bit about PDD-NOS, which is possibly what she has. Meds can help a little (the same ones for ADHD), but mostly she needs aggressive school interventions. Even if she can't get an ASD dx. yet, as professionals are usually scared to diagnose it in younger kids, she certainly CAN get interventions that address her problems. If she has trouble with transitions, social cluelessness, etc. she should get the same intervetnions that an ASD c hild has and you should probably think she may have it. NeuroPsychs are good diagnosticians. There are some here who will say these are ADHD traits. They are. ADHD and ASD are very similiar, except that late speech isn't a symptom of ADHD and interventions are mandatory for ASD. Your child is entitled to getting help for her problems. Does your daughter have any movements or vocalizations that are odd? Not all ASD kids do this (my son does not) but a lot do. That can also differentiate. Either way, ADHD, ASD or ABC the child should get school services. Here are a few links:

After reading your WHOLE post...hehe...on first cuppacoffee here, why not send me a PM? I have an ASD son and we can talk and compare. If you don't want to do that, please do check out the links. This child sounds ASD, not ADHD and I'll bet eventually she'll visit that diagnosis or at least be watched. The forums board Iposted is just like this one only it is for PDD. Many MANY PDD kids are first misdiagnosed with ADHD. I agree that a pediatrician wouldn't know. My son's hadn't a clue.
Hope to hear from you.
Hi and welcome. It sounds like your daughter has ADHD as well as other things also going on. Don't worry so much what the label is. Just get her the early intervention for her defecits in speech and sensory integration. Early intervention is the key. It sounds like you are doing the right thing for her. I also have a daughter that has other issues with speech and learning. I got her early intervention for those other things. Now we have an IEP in school to give her extra support where she needs it. Good luck!If you CAN get the label. It will make getting interventions much easier. The wiggling fingers and hand movements are pretty par for the course for ASD, if you want to check the board. If you can't get a dx. fight tooth and nail for the ASD interventions anyways. We had to do this for my son as we couldn't get him diagnosed young either. As the child gets older, other related issues will likely pop up, and treat them as they appear. Good luck!Hello all:)
I posted her a while ago. It was so long ago that I forgot my user name so I created a new one tonight:) Well, I am back to see if I can get more advise.
In my last post I mentioned I have a daughter, she is four years old. She is hyperactive with a very short attention span. Her natural father (she does not know him) had several diagnosis of ADHD on his side of the family. He may have had it himself, he was just never diagnosed.
A doctor told me he belived she was ADHD. Her was just a regualr ped. though.
Well, aside from the hyperactivity there are other issues. She has a speech issue. She is not delayed in receptive or expressive language but she has a pragmatic delay. Her speech therapist said she has the "tools" to talk, she just lacks the "know how" to get it out. Her non-verbal pragmatics are ok - she makes good eye contact, shakes head for yes/no and she does point at things that interest her.
Along with the possible ADHD and speech she does have a repetitive movement in her hands. When she is excited, she will wiggle her fingers and grimace her face. Her doctor calls this a sensory issue and wants her to see an OT. She has some other sensory issues, she is purely a seeker. This may be why she looks ADHD. I am not so sure ADHD is even a factor in her - I am just SOOOOOOO confused.
Anyway, the reason I am here...with all I mentioned above I get a lot of advise about ASD. I have taken my daughter to see a ped. neuro and a developmental ped. They both said she is not showing enough social deficits to be on the spectrum. She has been evaluated by the school district - they did not qualify her for special services. I have also seen a speech therapist that said my daughter does not appear to be asd. We are going to see an OT this month. I cant wait to hear what she has to say.
I feel like I have been everywhere - all I am looking for are some answers. I keep hearing terms like ADHD, language disorder, SID, etc.
Can anyone out there tell me - what does this sound like? Can a child have ADHD and stim? Do they have language issues?
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I am so frusterated. Everyone agrees something is going on with her but nobody is willing to diagnose or just give me a clear answer on what steps to take. I heard today (we had another eval) that "she is just stuck in a crack." That is so not what I want to hear....
Any advise????
