twingle9098 my 19 yr old had dificulty with her reading she had help as she aproached 7yrs old and this continued when she went into junior school this help was on one to one with a special teacher who would have children go to her in a quiet room for this extra help ,when she was 10yrs old we were getting redy to decide what secondary school to send her to when this teacher sugested that daughter should be tested for dyslexic, this was done and the results were back before she changed school which helped because she was then statemented so she would get the help she needed in her senior years its a shme this didnt get picked up sooner but when i was about dislexic it made sense , daughter couldnt go to the shop for me and get several things because she would forget things,
son was checked out after wards, youngest daughter was tested last year at the secondary school by the head of special needs she was not prsenting enough problems to warant much help except with her writing,
oldest daughter never learnt to read and write properly because her learning needs are to much, but supected her of dislexic , because even though she couldnt read and write on her own she could copy writing say of a shhet of paper in front of her and she would still get words and numbers aroubfd the wrong way,
my advice is first mention to the teacher and then try and get the child tested, 19yr old has just finished collage and loves using the pc she manages very well and can have more than one window open at a time in chat and msn hope this answers your question
just thought i would say hi , i have four childen 22 yr old daughter well below average priganly diagnoised add, 19yr old daughter who is dyslexic, 15yr old son adhd borderline dyslexic, and a 13yr old daughter who has no health problems that prsent them selves( suspect mild adhd, dyslexic) struggled over the years copping with all of this but they are good children,
i was wondering if any body else notice these things run in familys say for instance parents, cousins
I beleive it does run in families. Many other factors too I'm sure. I don't know about any of you.......but the children that have problems of some sort seem to out weigh the ones that are perfectly well behaved and do well in school. Either that, or I just don't know many good ones personally...LOLMy 5 year old son has his dad's nose and his ADHD, and he has my eyes
I don't know about cousins and stuff. My dad and brother have ADHD. My son has it. I don't and neither do my two daughters. It skipped us. We are all still suffering from it though!!
You must be sooooo strong!
I have three children with adhd. They range from hyper active to inattentive. I have several neices and nephew's with adhd and not all are diagnosised. But I know all of them have it. Their parent choose not to accept it. My son is 8 with hyper and my girls are 16 inattentive, one of the girls has mild hype on occasion.
My question to you is how did you know your children have dyslexia? I think my son may have dyslexia.
Yes, in our family (on dh's side, of course ) I see a lot of ADHD issues. Which is nice, in a way, because it is a reminder that it isn't bad parenting that makes dd act the way she does.
