lamictal and remeron | ADHD Information
MY son is 8 years old and has ADHD/Bipolar NOS his new doctor put him on lamictal for the bipolar and remeron to help him sleep at night. I see that lamictal is black label for children under the age of 16. I was wondering if anybody has had their children put on it and what was the outcome of using the meds. Also i have noticed since he has been taking the remeron it has helped him sleep but he wakes up extremely hungry and stays hungry all day long. Is this normal of the remeron.
I took that when I was 15. I didn't notice any side effects that were too bad.
Except for the fact that it made me like not like people.
Lamictil is a seizure medicine, but it is very helpful for bipolar, particularly if there is depression in bipolar.
The risk with lamictil in kids under 16 is that it can cause a rare but serious skin reaction - call Stevens Johnsons syndrome. This has to be monitored.
Remeron causes sedation and increased appetite as its two main side effects.
Often 'atypical antipsychotics' like risperidone can be helpful in kids with ADHD and bioplar.
I hope that helps.
