call from the teacher | ADHD Information

It provides classroom accommodations only. They are not classified as SE.ok he has that allready i just dont understand y the teacher isnt comprehending cuz believe me its not gonna be the last time he gets in trouble and if she calls on everything he does then she mize well put me on speed dial. just got a call from my sons teacher he got out of his seat when the teacher left the room and she told me that she told everyone to stay in their seat. yes it was wrong for my son to get out of his seat but i ask u all is that a important reason to call me and tell me when i warned her about my son from the beginning. im also thinkin im gonna get a call almost everyday. he has lunch detention isnt that a little harsh i said couldnt u make him write sentence 1st offense then i ask what happens if he does it again or somethin similar all she said was hope it wont happen again. now let me remind you hes a 6th grader with adhd and some other issues. please let me know what u think. oh and i guess she couldnt wait to call because it was before my son got home.Sounds like this teacher is NOT a good match for your son. You might want to consider asking for another teacher, if that can be done. She sounds as if she does not have the patience or understanding for your child and does not want to be bothered. Sorry to hear all this, I know how frustrating it is. ill get my day when my sons meeting arrives cuz i dont only talk to teachers i talk to everyone including principal and guidance counselors this year is gonna b different cuz its his 1st year in jrhigh but believe me i will be prepared do you want to know how i get prepared?I would also ask for a new teacher. The school year has just begun. This teacher does not get it, and it's not your job to help her get it.  I know it would be rude, but I would have asked her exactly why she was calling me, (immediately after she described the getting out of the seat behavior) and then tell her that she needs to request and IEP or 504 meeting to address her concerns. Make the team deal with her and educate her. I would want the phone call to end pleasantly, but with her being very hesitant to call me again over such a minor offense.i know what iep is but what is 504 meeting?

My biggest concern is whether there was another certified adult in the classroom when she left, and why she left.  She is legally responsible for her students at any time they are in her classroom.  I would be really concerned if my student was left in a classroom unattended.

I have over 4 hours as a teacher that I have no plan, and cannot leave my students.  If I have to use the restroom, I have to call another certified adult to watch my students to be able to leave my room.

I also think the teacher is being ridiculous if that is her only complaint.  I could understand if she had more to complain about, but if there was no adult there then she would not know anymore than that.

Learning doesn't just happen on your butt. Teach differently if what your doing isn't working. I hear it's better to have the iep than a 504. Se people are also covered under 504. To me to much child complaints goes on about kids behaviors. Use a insentive to be good program. Tickets when good with a prize if you don't loose any that day. Our kids are not moveing about enough either these days.

So he has a 504 plan but not an IEP, right?  If the teacher is not accommodating (that is, calling you over something so minor), then she is being hard-nosed.  A 504 plan is good but does not carry the same legal weight as an IEP.  So teachers can be resistent to do anything beyond what they think the 504 plan may require (especially if the plan is too general).  Also, she's clearly not getting it w/regard to your child's disability. I also would have the meeting with both the teacher and the principal.  Does he have a behavior intervention plan?

One more thing -- what's she doing out of the classroom leaving kids alone? It may be a classroom of 6th graders, but still.

To me it sounds like since you made the teacher aware now the teacher may be looking for issues.  Definetly try talking to the teacher in a meeting with Principal present to discuss your concerns get it out in the open and if it does not work then request a new teacher.
