Patch and red spots | ADHD Information
I wonder if the sticky stuff they are allergic to. You know that is possible also. My daughter has been using the patch for the last few weeks. Lately, we've noticed that that red spots are not disappearing as quickly as they did in the beginning. I realize the spots are typical but they seem to be a bit more intense, ie: a little puffy (no bumps or anything). Also, my daughter says they itch like crazy in the morning. Again, I know a little itch is expected since the patch has an irritant in order to release the medicine. But should it be so itchy that it's distracting?
We've tried Resinol to ease the discomfort and redness but then the patches don't stick as well. Grrr..
I'm waiting on a call from the doc. I was just wondering what other people are experiencing and have tried.
Thanks.
My son was on the patch for about 4 weeks. The medication worked
great and I loved the he was on it. But, after the 2nd week, we started
having a problem with the red spots also. They started lasting longer and
longer. They should have been gone by the 3rd day, but weren't. He
ended up having 3 red patch spots on each hip, with no where else for us
to apply one. And, they were starting to it the day after we would take
the patch off. They welted up from him itching, and some even got little
sores from him itching so much. We tried all kinds of creams and
medications to help, but nothing did the trick. We went back to the
doctor at about week 4, and decided we couldn't use it any longer. I was
pretty bummed because it worked so well.
We switched to Concerta 2 weeks ago. I noticed last night when he was in
the shower, that he still has 2 or 3 red squares spots on his hips that
haven't gone away. They aren't real red, but still show up. It's almost like
a scarring or something. The doctor thought it wasn't the medication
causing the problem, but something "in" the patch...the platic or the
adhesive or the agent used to make the skin absorb the medication.
Be sure to check the "Daytrana Anyone" thread for some great info on the
patch. There have been a few of us that had the skin irritation problem
and had to sop using it.
Hope this helps...
