Adult ADD - what type do i have? help | ADHD Information

May want to check out Hallowell's ADHD books (Driven to Distraction; Delivered from Dstrctn., etc.) for the official offshoots of AD(H)D.

After having twins & losing my structured routine of work & school, I felt engulfed by clutter, w/annoying to-do items nagging at the back of my head in a workplace that never closed.  I mean I didn't want anyone to wear clothes or use dishes because as soon as I'd finish there'd be more items to clean!

Anyway, I started Adderall after being diagnosed when I was 3O.  I'm 41 now, & still, if anyone says to me, "I need to talk to you later"--forget it--I'll throw feces (to quote a former member here).  I cannot tolerate a distraction like that.  If it needs to be done, I do it right then & there (zee-ro patience), or write it on my hand (can't lose that) until it's taken care of.

I need things to be perfect, prepared for & I'm willing to stay up all night to do it, so my morning & everyone else's isn't reminiscent of hell.

The Adderall (I'm only on 2Omg a day) helps immensely.  Buona fortuna!

Sounds like classic inattentive type to me.  I've been on Wellbutrin before. Never noticed it helping much at all with the ADD.

In my opinion, you need to go to a psych that specializes in adult ADD.  The ones you've been to don't seem to know much about it.  You will probably have to make several phone calls to find one that even address adult ADD.  Because the symptoms of depression can mimic ADD,  if the psychs you are seeing aren't familiar with and treat patients that have adult ADD regularly they will naturally go for a depression diagnosis.  You really need to seek out a specialist.

I think a change of meds would make a world of difference too.  I'm on Strattera and it has been a god send.  It literally has changed my world for the better.  When I got my diagnosis I was nearly at the end of my rope personally. I was starting a new career and scared **itless that I was going to screw this 'career' up too.  I tearfully confessed to the psych that I couldn't face one more failure in my life.  He put me on Strattera and within a week I could really see a difference.  Before I got the diagnosis I started journaling and kept journaling all through the about the first 6 months of being on the meds.  To go back and read my entries, WOW!  If that what it was like, I don't ever want to go back.

You might want to check out a book called Women aand ADD (I think that's the title) by Sari Solden.  She addresses the issues that are specific to women with ADD.  I would tell you how it ends but I put it down mid way through.  It is very good though.  She has a special ADD questionare for women.  It will be an eye opener.

EMail me if you have any other questions.  I'm never chinsy with my opinion.

ADD&Proud38974.4383564815Definitely go see another psych.  I actually was given my first Adderall Rx by my GP & then found a psych to monitor me on my meds.  Don't give up!

Okay, don't laugh, but could HyperFocus be considered a type of ADHD?  (I assumed it was just a polar symptom of Hyperactivity)

I don't have the book in front of me & now I'm dying to categorize myself.  I keep remembering reading the sub-section part in one of Hallowell's tomes & recall something like Creative ADHD I identified with, but that just sounds attractive & stupid now.

i am INATTENTIVE IMPULSIVE ADD,my psy was quite impressed with my tests results, apparently they were quite high.

i take 54mg concerta, seems to do ok for the impulsive side, not much luck on the inattentive bit

Mine like shuts his eyes for like twelve one time like even twenty seconds at a time while he's talking to me!  I mean What the H !?!  If I can't see someone's eyes when they're talking I instantly go deaf.  I expect he has ADD & is just really trying to concentrate, or I'm too distracting or just difficult to look at for too long.

Hyperfocus can be a symptom of adhd!!!  Where are you all coming up with these types??

I saw my doc yesterday for my monthly fun with adhd meeting!!!    I am not sure why he laughs at me all the time - but he said he has seen pretty impressive improvements whatever that means?

He asks me questions, I answer, he asks something else based on my answer and I always say YEAH that's what I was trying to say!!!  He laughs - I told him I thought he had adhd - he laughs!!!  Go figure?

Soooo does that make me the humurous adhd type?  Good thing I am not footing the bill for my laughing doctor for another year!!!

Your symptoms sound a lot like mine, and I have the Inattentive type.  I have been taking AdderallXR, in addition to Wellbutrin since April.  I am up to 35 mg on the Adderall, and 75mg twice daily on the Wellbutrin.  They seem to help quite a bit, however, I think that there still needs to be some fine tuning done.i have been to psychiatrists several times. they only talked to
me for five minutes at best and never asked me any specific
questions about my add.

my symptoms are:
can't focus on reading
have trouble tracking lectures, meetings (not conversations)
have trouble structuring chores on my free time and lose track
bad memory, especially proper names and short term
messy house, can't keep up with bills
interrupt others in conversation due to impatience
(but no other hyperactivity - described as "relaxed")
forget i am talking and talk too much in monologue
lose track of time - lateness, bad estimates of passing time

if anyone knows what "type" of ADD this is,
what meds are good for it,
what herbal supplements are good for it,
what compensating strategies are good for it,
or any other infor, i would appreciate it a lot !!

i am currently on wellbutrin 150mg XL ( i am 125 lbs, 36 y.o.)
have been on it for four monthes and it seems to help
depression and i feel less lost. i used to feel so bogged down i
couldnt' do anything. however, i still do have the above
described symptoms which are pretty bad. there are chores
that wait for monthes that i simply cannot do no matter how
hard i try.....

thanks !
