strattera not working..suggestions | ADHD Information
If you are not seeing a child psychiatrist that specializes in med management, you probably should be. If you think you have exhausted the medication options, I would try high-EPA Omega-3 (no or little DHA), and a chelated multi-mineral supplement. Our pdoc told us that ritalin helped with impulse control. After ds pulled his pants down on the bus, we jumped at using it. It makes me laugh now, but I cried for three days when it happened. I was sure he had ruined his life and was never going to get a good job. He was in 6th grade.

DD's first experience with stimulants was with Concerta. After about a month and a half of trying various dosages, we took her off because her personality turned very dark and she became very withdrawn and angry. But she wasn't hyper, so technically you could say the stim worked. We switched her to Ritalin LA and she is back to being herself. They are both methylphenidate, so I don't know why there was such a big difference in her mood.
It backed fire on us. So i don't think of that drug very good for any child. But that is my oppinion. We went to concerta and facolin. Good luckMY son Geoff takes Strattera 40mg. We don't think it is working anymore because his impulsive (sometimes dangerous) acts at school are slowly increasing. Besides that, the dr says it is supposed to last all day but my son has more better mornings than afternoons lately. And at night, forget it-he is all over the place. The only problem that I have is the financial because we do not have insurance. Is there any suggestions on any other medicine? He had used stimulants before but supposedly they did not work but I am not sure if that was due to medicine, the non structured and loving environment or a combination. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated....Hi, I have seen posts on here that lead me to believe that it is pretty common for Stratterra to work for a while, then stop working. We tried it too, but by 6 months it wasn't working any more. Did you try more than one kind of stimulant? The first on we tried didn't work out, so we are on a different one now with much better results. Currently on Ritalin LA. Was formerly on Concerta. To cr12345mr:
Did your child have problems with stimulants before? When Geoff lived with his biological mom, he was on one of stimulants and it supposedly did not work-BUT she was the problem. His "mother" did not give him the rules and stability he needed. If a kid typically had a bad reaction before, can that or does that change with time?
Letitiahere's my story for strattera. My son was on it for 2 years. He is now 8. the med worked great for the first 5 or 6 months, then we had to up his dosage to right around 30 something mg.s then about 6 months later, upped again to 60mg! Went well, but over time (so slowly) we didn't realize how the meds were not really working Then he started getting into trouble alot at school. So, about 4 weeks ago, we took him off it and put him on adderall 10mg XR. Night and day difference. But the withdraws from the strattera were horrific! my little 8 year old was out of school for a week, was having thoughts of people killing him and him killing himself. After 5 nights of pure hell, the thoughts slowly stopped. Now he is back to his self. with less meds and happy, and he almost never gets into trouble. This is just our story. It may not happen to any one else, but it happened to us.
