my son was on wellbutrin and it did very little, and Strattera did nothing for him. I do not think he was on both at once, and if he was it must have been very uneventful as I do not recall it.
Did your son have anger problems before the meds?
What is your son's diagnosis and are there any comorbids? Shire just got finished studies to get a long acting tenex approved for ADHD and are starting additional studies for ADHD + ODD. It is a blood pressue med and not a stimulant. My daughter is on it to augment concerta. It does not help with attention, but helps with opposition, calming, sleep issues and weight issues. Good luck.
to crazymamma, not to the extent he does now but he is older and going to be 11 at the end of the month and i hear that they are really sassy at that age. now i think its a habit and doesnt know another way to express when hes in the anger mode. thanks for your reply
I'm on wellbutrin for depresson right now, although since my son was diagnosed in June I've realized that my prob. is really ADD as well, and not depression. I can't really comment on it's effectiveness for obvious reasons, but the one thing my doctor told me about it is that it causes very few side effects- most people have no problems taking it.
To see if it is the meds effecting his anger you could try writing down all you observations about his behavior for several days to a week, noting when outbursts happen, what was happening at the time, everything that's connected with it. Then start the new med and continue making the observations. It's very time consuming (I know because I've done it for both my son and some of the children I work with) but having the written record to look at objectively is invaluable when trying to determine if a drug is effective.
