16 year old ADHD & Bipolar | ADHD Information

Depending on where you live for insurance wise there is Medicaid and if your son has documentation of disability and has a hard time functioning in a real job you can always apply for SSI.  Where i live we have healthy New York so if you have  no insurance you either get it free or low cost and if he is not working it will be free.  Just ideas.

My 16 year old son has ADHD & is Bipolar. The thing that is so depressing is that things haven't changed much for him growing up with both these disorders. He still forgets to take his medication, forgets to do his homework, cusses, throws fits like a 2 year old, etc. etc.  My question is how will he function when he turns 18? Also, how will he be able to pay for his medications and Dr. visits?

Thanks,

Kathy

i'm sorry.... my little shocked face is because i have a son who is bipolar..and i keep praying that things will get better...i really don't have an answer for you... but since he is still only 16 yrs old can't YOU make him take his medication? i have a friend on this board who is bipolar and she has trouble remembering to take her medication and she is an adult... alittle reminder seems to help her... good luck and WELCOME   I'm 19 with bipolar and adhd and right now im in college and im doing
pretty well. when i was 16 though college seemed unreasonable. dont worry,
chances are he'll get better.
