cold weather blues | ADHD Information
Don't know how to do polls, but my husband and I find that
when it's dark and cloudy outside, we feel like sleeping
a lot more.
Are you sure it's cold weather that makes you lethargic?
Could it be dark weather, rather than cold? Cloudy, foggy,
fewer hours of daylight at certain times of year.
I make efforts to go outside in the sunshine -- especially
in the winter. If it's been cloudy for days and the sun
shines for a few minutes, I'll try to rush outside and
enjoy it even if I'm busy and don't feel like it. I tell
myself I need to "save up" the sunshine for February so I
won't get depressed.
Just going outside, even if it's cloudy, gets me a good
amount of daylight. Opening the curtains helps too.
I have a clock-light that gradually comes on just before I wake up in the morning. I find it really makes a difference to my
circadian rhythm and seems to help me avoid getting depressed in February.
In early Spring, when everyone else is complaining that it's such
a drag that Spring weather still hasn't arrived, I now say "I don't care what today's weather is like; I can feel deep down inside that it's really Spring." I believe I feel like that
because of using the clock-light -- though Cognitive Therapy probably helps too.
Cold weather makes me depressed and lethargic. I think it may be an ADD thing. I remember reading "Healing ADD' and Dr. Amen said Seasonal Effective Disorder was more common in those with ADHD.

Isnt this called SAD, Seasonal Depressive Disorder??
I wanted to do a poll on this subject, but not depression, children with ADHD. I would like to know if environment has an effect on ADHD. Less/More Sun cause ADHD, Having a Back yard/Apartment etc - but didnt figure out how !
A poll for this I believe would include :
People in warm climates (such as california),
People in Cold environments (lots of snow and long winters),
people with back yards for children to play in,
people who dont have back yards
any other suggestions.
If people could add to these suggestions (surrounding environment) and someone who knows how volunteered to do a poll for me - I would much appreciate it
WOW!
I thought I was the only one!
I have been diagnosed with SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). I've been
taking Wellbutrin from September thru March for the past 3 years, now.
Diagnosed with ADHD, this year.
What helps the most is this light box that sits on my desk next to my
computer. I turn it on whenever I am sitting there. If you are interested
in a light box or a clock-light, google it with keywords: SAD northern

The winter blues affect me by:
**nothing is green** I am very sensitive to this.
no flowers or foliage
short days
wake up before sun comes up
go home after sun goes down
I live in an area that is a dry and moderate-cold climate - but we get over
300 days of sun a year. This area does experience all four seasons. The
winter season lasts from November thru February.
