Proper punishment in PE | ADHD Information

Share

Yesterday my sone came home and told me him and another boy got in trouble in PE and had to stand out. he said he had to stand by the cone in the HOT sun, it was so hot. I asked if he was able to go back to PE and he said no, he had to stand there the rest of the time. This burned me up. That is no way to punish a spunky 7 year old boy. What the hell are these teachers thinking? Don't they attend any programs or something to teach THEM how to handle children.?

I talked to the counciler for 1/2 hour this morning. He said to find something on the internet about how to handle behavior problems in ADHD kids in PE, print it out along with instructions from me and give it to the PE teacher. He said the proper thing to do would be having him walk or run 3 laps of the track, something like that, to expel some energy, then let him get back to PE. Does any one know something I could print out? Or should I just do a search?

He also said I should set up a conference with the teacher and vice principlal (who is a Dr.) and talk about what would be the best thing to do with Dillon in class. The teacher told me in the begining of the week she would put a positive behavior program in place for Dillon, so I asked her this morning if she had and she said no, it'snot fair to do it for 1 child and not the rest, she did not act interested, and I could tell she is getting fed up with Dillon...NOT GOOD. I am bound and determined to find the right thing for him before trying meds....But he did manage to get 4 SMILIES and 1 frown this week.....best week yet!

I am for some type of physical activity, but for goodness sake do not make him stand still.  Push ups, laps, jump rope, jumping jacks, something.  We have big problems with PE.  The teacher here is a military reject.  We ignore grades in PE.  Like my son is not active???? lol.

My son's karate teacher used to make the kids do squats, but I don't know if you can get away with that at school .  When I was a kid, the teacher used to make the boys do pushups, when the boys got in trouble.  Can you tell I grew up in a military town.  "Drop and give me twenty-five, boy!"    Did Dillon tell you what he did to have to sit out?

Congrats on the four smilies .

He said a boy behind him was poking him and he was elbowing back....of course THE OTHER KID STARTED IT........but HE got in trouble, then he said they both had to stand out. It's hard to get all of the truth from an ADHD 7 year old boy, you get bits and pieces for hours...LOL

Push up's.....I forgot about that! I should make him do that at home... Making him stand out teaches him nothing!

Yes...4 smilies!  Maybe all I am doing IS helping! He even gets up every morning saying he will get a smiley face today! ut ya know what? The teacher STILL gave him a U on behavior for the week at 60%??????? What the heck????? She is a B*&%$

You mean there are seven-year-old boys who don't do this when they are standing in line?

Does your son have an IEP? It sounds to me like he may need one to get the school to take responsibility for their actions regarding his behavior.

lillian.....HAAAAAAAAAA I KNOW! Right? The dull ones don't do it...teehee Only the bright ones.

He does not have an IEP. I talked to the counciler this morning about it. I will talk to the teacher and principal this coming week. I am new to all this and trying to figure out where to start. I'm learning though.

Like i tell my son. If someone starts something with you then tell the teacher, Don't take the law into your own hands. Because you will be the one to get in trouble.Thats what they do at my son's school also. They make them sit out on the side. I don't think the school staff have enough nolig to handle adhd children. Good luck

No sorry but dont agree with any of you mums . (sorry)

PE is the best and most enjoyable subject at school for boys and to stand out and miss taking part is just the sort of punishment i had at school too. Y ou stand there and watch your mates laughing and havin funn it smarts a bit. as for laps and jumpin jacks the teacher has to stand and observe you doing the punishment so you dont skive off. Pretty hard to do with a full class.

Call the CSE to set up a meeting to develop an IEP.REMOVEING/PE IS THE PUNISHMENT THING THESE DAYS. I TOLD ARE DIAGNOSTIC PERSON UNNECESSARY WITH KIDS WITH BRAIN DISORDER. BOY WHAT A DIRTY LOOK i GOT. MOST STAFF CAN FIND ANYTHING TO CALL MISBEHAVIOR. OUR SON WILL LAUGH AT TIMEOUTS. THIS PUNISHMENT IS NOT GOOD AT ALL LET'S REMOVE THEIR STAFF BREAKS. lET'S SEE HOW YOU ARE IF THAT WHERE DONE. LAPS SOUNDS GREAT TO ME. THAT IS NOT GOOD WE ALL NEED BREAKS.
