adderall | ADHD Information

That's just a side affect but if it keeps going on for too long a time go see a doctor and tell him/her what's happening. And keep in mind Adderall is very easily addictive.

Side effects

One of the most apparent side effects of Adderall is loss of appetite, one of the main reasons it was originally marked for the diet craze.

Those who are prescribed the drug and take it on a daily basis learn to adjust their schedules to make time for meals.

"When I first started taking it, it suppressed my appetite," Susan says. "Then you learn that you can't let it do that, and now my body has adjusted, [so] I still get hungry when I'm on it."

"I'm obsessed with food, so when I first started Adderall, it was weird," says Josie, who has a prescription for Adderall for her ADHD. "I won't know what I'm in the mood for, because I don't have an appetite, but once you start eating, you get over it. You just need less to get full."

The appetite-suppressant aspect of Adderall is one of the contributing factors to its popularity among female college students, some of whom use it as a diet pill.

There are other side effects, as well, that include dehydration, hot flashes, stomach pains, nausea, heavy sweating, headaches and even involuntary movements.

"Sometimes I get really dehydrated, and I need to drink lots of water," Josie says. "My heart starts racing, and I get hot flashes, but only sometimes."

I took this information from the page below.

I haven't had any side effects form adderall but everyone reacts to medications differently. I've spoken to others who have had diarrhea or stomach pains for the first two weeks while there body adjusted to the medication. After the initial 2 weeks they said they felt fine and the med worked great. Sometimes your body just needs time to adjust. If it is a severe problem I would stop the meds and see your doctor about prescribing something else. Otherwise I would wait it out a bit and make sure it's not just his body getting use to them.

My 5 year old son was just put on adderall.  About an hour after taking it, he complains his belly hurts.  I made sure he ate.  Is this normal?  I don't want to send him to school with a belly ache.  I would appreciate any suggestions.  Thank you.

My son has been on Adderall for some time now and has no problem with his stomach.  I would bring it up to his doctor though.  Is this the first medication he has been put on for ADHD?

My son was just switched to adderall. He also said his stomach hurt the first few days. He also was speeding the first day he took it. Both have tapered off with a little time. Of course you should always contact your doctor if it persists. I also have to check with the doctor because now he is saying he has trouble breathing. All of a sudden after starting this medication. So if that happens you should also ask dr. or ask at the same time as the stomach ache inquiry.
