My son stutters also. The stuttering has gotten worse withing the last year. My son will stutter with or without meds but I have noticed that the stuttering was better when I gave him magnesium . I have only tried this a few times so only time will tell if this actually helps him.
Not sure if this is the same thing... But when we 1st put our son on Ritilan he was 4 years old, we was shocked on how the med's was helping him to control his actions, but we too noticed the umm... humm..umm's when he was trying to telling us something. We thought of it as more of a reaction to med's with his thoughts being more clearer and understood in his head. I guess it was like he was a train running at full speed all his life, jumping from one thought to the other all the time, then once we started the med's, the train slowed down so that now he can think things out and actually hold and enjoy a conversation. This is all soley my opinion btw. He does not ummm.. hummm....ummm anymore. I beleive once he got used to the meds, that all stopped. We have since been on several different kinds of meds trying to find the one that is just right for him.
ptgally38978.3121180556This could be a vocal tic. Does your son have motor tics? Sometimes if a child has some mild tics, amphetamines can worsen them or change them. My 5 year old son was recently put on 5 mg of ritalin. He is a very articulate little boy. He has had speech therapy since he was born and now has no speec problems. However, since he started the ritalin he can't seem to get his thoughts out. He is constantly going ummm ummm a umm every other word. As the meds wear off his speech becomes clear again. Has anyone had any problems like this?Does he have anxiety? Stimulants like Ritalin can exacerbate anxiety. Maybe that's what you're seeing.
