Taking Dex & so angry. Please advise me. | ADHD Information

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the advice. I ended up taking a relaxant/sleeping tablet that night to calm down. Next day I was an absolute mess and my doc called me in immediately. He thinks it might be me feeling out of control and freaking myself out.

He suggested a couple of options - smaller doses more often of the dex - but I'm a bit scared of them now - so he suggested edronax which is a non-stimulant anti-depressant. (Anyone heard of it or tried it?) I'm on really mild dose (quarter a day) to build up slowly. Also have valium in case I go crazy again.  I feel much better being off the dex but also more hyper again.

Other options Ritalin & Concerta but really expensive here. I dont think there is much else avail in Oz and I think Dexies are the preferred choice here.

Thanks again for the advice. I shall see how this goes.

i have severe allergies and i take zyrtec everyday..at night, its an antihistamine..that actually offsets my adderall and wellbutrin mostly

i've read of docs advising benadryl and what not for kids that have sleep issues but i don't know if thats harmful.

oh yeah

i also take 300mgs of wellbutrin

and i don't test my jaws with anything like gum..since my i will chew like a maniac and i have always ground my teeth in my sleep, but now my jaw is sore when i wake sometimes..the gum thing...its like when you're on xtc...but minus the dreamy happiness...

Holy Moly!

I've never even considered the implications of 'telling ppl' that one takes whatever drug one takes unless its the issue of stigma...wow. never thought of that one..thats sucky..

i take adderall and it must be mild compared to dex b/c i'm on 20mgs and i makes me crash in the afternoon and feel a bit grouchy..but it doesn't sound nearly as devestating as dex. plus i actually see good results.

for the most part i've been able to keep up with all the demands of life (that are musts, i have to cut out of a lot o' crap b/c well, we must not overcommit right? LOL) and i've been going to school +full time work+i'm a mom of a newly minted four year old and a wife blah blah blah..so i'm glad that i can manage.

but i'm soooo sorry about all your side effects..has your doctor even suggested other meds? like adderall?

i take the extended release, i'm thinking about getting on an additional immediate release of 10mgs of adderall to battle my 2-6 pit of non-motivation, sludge on a couch moving at jello speed begging from mercy from the god of sleep...

Hi there,

I also had a similar experience.  I had heard such positive stories of people taking Dex and their lives being transformed, but when I took it I had almost the same experience as you are having.   I  - and my pschiatrist - finally concluded that Dex wasn't for me.  I found that I could barely communicate with people.  Even though my thought process was fine, when I tried to get words out my speech was stilted and felt rigid, if that makes sense.  I only experienced one day when I felt that the Dex was working as it should be - but other than that I didn't feel any more focused or able to concentrate.

I felt very down when I wasn't seeing any good effects through being on Dex, but I have got over it.

It IS early days for you, so it could be that you need to adjust the dosage.  Don't give up hope yet.  I, however, am now looking to try other possibilities.  I also suffer quite badly from depression, so I am going to try Strattera next, although I've heard lots of negative stories about that too!

Good luck.  It may be that Dex is not for you - but remember there are other alternatives out there.  Don't give up hope.

A lot of us wish we had your doctor. For most of us Dexidrine is the best medication but the most difficult to get.

1. 10MG is a large dose for a newbee. You are obviusly over-stimulated. I would cut the pill into thirds. But you should keep your buisiness private, better to build up some reserve stock.

2 It's not a medication that you have to take 3 times a day, or 2 times a day, take it when you need it.

3. Avoid coffee and caffene while using dex. Of all the ADD drugs Dexidrine is the most "speed" like. Don't tell anyone you take it or people will be breaking into your home stealing your meds.

I've just been diagnosed with ADHD and my doc said he would give me some tablets that would "change my life". I've been taking Dexamphetamines for about 6 days now. He told me to take 30mg a day (10 first day, then 20 then 30). But my life is worse.

I'm having side effects - can't sleep, jaw clenching, very irritable and quick to temper and not overly happy. In the evenings and mornings I'm as jumpy as ever and I feel even more tense.

Mentally I am so up and down. Sometimes I'm really calm and relaxed and feel as though I could go to sleep (rare) othertimes I'm really hyper and anxious and talking faster than normal. I also get a tingling at random times. At night when its wearing off I'm particularly jumpy. As for extra concentration and focus I have only noticed that on day 1. Today I had trouble at work trying to explain a simple process to a customer. I haven't really noticed and additional clarity but I am able to sit still and listen to people when still on the meds - which is great.

I'm a little bit confused what to expect. I know someone else that is on them and she is so calm but I dont feel that.  Can you please advise me what to do? Am I taking too much? Am I on the wrong medication? Should I persevre and these symptoms will go away? I can't stand being so angry and frustrated and its almost constant now. Will a different med eg Ritalin give a different reaction? Should I be taking an anti-depressant as well (My pharmasist gave me some muscle relaxants to allow me to sleep)?

Please please please advise me. I'm so confused.

Thanks
