I work with the developmentally disabled as a Medicaid Service Coordinator (social worker) so I  hope I can help.  Have you applied for SSI for your disabled son?  If your son is recieving SSI being developmentally disabled he gets automatic medicaid free that is his entitlement.  As for your current situation I would contact a lawyer for advice there are ones who you can get a free counseltation and do not have to pay until the case is won and therefore the medical insurance company can be responsible for that.  Do you live in the US is another question?  Different areas different laws.

as for the therapys your son needs that can be addressed in his IEP with the school district they are responsible for that.  Let me know how it goes, feel free to PM if you have anymore questions.

My 9 year old son with ADHD has significant developmental delays and has received both PT and OT over the past year.  He made significant strides but still desperately needs the therapy.  We just recently learned from our insurance provider that all of the therapy sessions he had last year and this year (which were approved and paid) are now being denied and the insurance company is asking the provider for the $$ back.  We will be billed for this amount ourselves, and it amounts to close to 00, and that's money we don't have.
The provider has appealed the decision and we're also going to appeal it (but we haven't received the proper paperwork for that yet) but I need to know what I can do to get my son the therapy he desperately needs.
I don't believe that he would be classified as "developmentally disabled" but is definitely developmentally delayed.  Most of the PT and OT tests he has had done, he functions in the neighborhood of a 6 year old range, and he is 9.  When retested after several months, he made significant gains with therapy but our insurance is now refusing to pay for it.

SSi is based on home income we don't qualify. This is the same story that happened 1 year they payed it next year refused it.Most ins. companies no longer cover this dx anymore unless you have a asd dx. Our son has never exelled at the rate of his peers. He also is a May baby also which makes him almost 1 yr. younger than almost all his peers. No lawyer would even look at our sons case. I think it's cause he has never gotten a correct dx.
