help with Procrastination | ADHD Information

First, realize that you have support right here on these boards.  Every single one of us on these boards procrastinates so you can't get off the hook by using your procrastination as an excuse to not get help.  I (and the vast majority of those on this forum) do the same thing.  I still have to ask someone else to make appointments for me.  If it takes having someone else make your appointments then do so.

Second, go to a Psychiatrist.  If you need a referral (for insurance) then see your GP first (GP's are good but you really should see a Psychiatrist).  When you go in for your visit. take your appointment book (if you don't have one, get one) and ask your doctor when she would like to see you again and make your next appointment BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE OFFICE.  When your next appointment is set, WRITE IT DOWN IMMEDIATELY or you will lose your appointment card or you will forget.

Third, find a Mental Health Practitioner who specializes in helping those with ADHD.  This person should help you work through your past struggles and should also give you tips for how to manage the work/life problems that ADHD has caused or is causing.  These forums are a fantastic resource but remember we too are ADHD and although many of us manage our struggles very well we still have our moments where we don't manage well so it is good to hear advice from someone who sees the world from the non-ADHD perspective.

Got a good friend who will kick your butt if need be? Call them and ask them to kick your butt if need be.

It works for me.
Guys I need help. I am pretty sure that I have adult ADD. I have a follow-up doctors appt next week with my family doctor because of a bad sinus infection and pneumonia that I am now getting over. I'd like to discuss this with him when I go in but I figure he'll sent me some where else for testing. I KNOW ME! I'll never make it to the next step. I have never met any one that procrastinates as much as I do. I don't have much support at home but I feel if I don't get help soon it'll fall on a long to-do list and I'll never fix this disaster I live in...... I have thought that the way I felt was a thyroid problem for over 7 years and never went to the doc about it, now thanks to a friend, I see so much of my self in the adult add information. It's so depressing to know what needs to be done and never do it......... Anybody have any advise, please?
