A career change to suit my ADD | ADHD Information

Congrats on making such a huge change.  It's a hard thing to do.

I've found my carreer in childcare suits me well.  My attention span matches that of the little ones and I get to be creative and feel like what I'm doing is really making a difference.  It also doesn't hurt that it's a very stimulating environment.

Hi Guys!!

Well something strange overcame me the other day. I was daydreaming as usual sitting at my horrible desk in my dingy, boring office! I was thinking this is not what I want to do for the rest of my life!! Sitting down, bored, trying to listen to the small talk, doing a job I don't care about.

So...it just popped in my head that I would like to be a teacher. It would suit my ADD personality..energetic, talkative, challenging plus it's not a boring job either! Next thing i had enrolled at my local college to do a BA Honours degree and the following week I had left my job! I now feel happier than ever, I didn't think about anyone else for once, just myself. i made the right choice for me and my ADD! For the first time in my ADD life, I made a decisive decision! So I would say to anyone out their that struggles with their ADD at work, take a chance and change things for the better! Don't do something you hate. I struggle to be organised all the time, I can't sit still, I can't be quiet.  So of course an office is not for me! Now I am so happy, I have a new goal to reach and feel I have a new life where I am not stuck in a rut!!!

I think call center work may be good for some with ADHD.

I knew several people that had ADD, and they did really well, especially at the technical stuff. Me and this other woman had ADHD, and we were supervisors, and we could get almost any system or computer problem fixed. However the hard part about call centers is the politics and management. You just have to stand up for yourself and show you have guts and potential. You have to be with your type of people, and you will feel more normal and accepted.

I'm a fitness instructor and it totally suits me with having ADHD.

I get to do all the talking and I don't have to take turns with anyone, I can switch from one thing to the next (Squats to lunges, jump rope to the step, etc.) and be praised for it, being hyper and full of energy is expected of me and appropriate in a fitness studio.....I feel so thankful!! I would die if I had to sit in a chair or in an office all day...just couldn't do it!!!
