yes, it is so interesting how much more aware of your old bad habits you had before treating adhd.  i know that i was drinking way too much caffeine and sugary foods, to somehow try to stay focused before taking my meds. (sort of like self-medicating) now, i'm able to step back, slow down and assess what I'm putting into my body!   what a sense of control of SOMETHING!!!!  after having untreated adhd for so long, i never felt i had control of anything....

I agree with landtheplane all the way!!

I started eating healthy also once I was diagnosed with ADD. I thought that since I have decreased appetite I might as well make the best of it and eat healthy. I book a read was called "For a Better Brain" and it tells you a lot about whats healthy for you. It also warns you about what foods have high mercury contents and what not. Its a good read if your interested. but anyways my focus was great once I started some meds but then it pretty much doubled once I started eating better and started exercising 3-4 days a week...it really makes you feel great about being yourself.

I make myself eat and eat healthy.  I'm starting to learn that what you eat and drink hugely affects your adhd and health.  Make sure you make time to eat.  Peanut butter is good.  Proteins are important!  Since you don't have an appetite, you may just have to eat little meals all day to keep you healthy.

I haven't lost any weight and I'm on my first month of taking it....I think that's because I'm trying to eat so I won't get sick or lose energy.

My doc told me that the reason why I lost some weight is because my meds sped up my metabolism. But I know that I eat much less now then I use to because I never really get that hunger feeling anymore so I think its a nasty combination of the two.

i was wondering, do you think the reason people loose weight on adderal is becuase they lack an appitite and dont eat as much, or becuase of the actual pill, or is it a combo. if you eat normal you should stay the same weight right? or will the pill make u loose it anyway and u need to eat more. i just dont wanna loose any so i figured id ask. i personally find stick figure women gross and i wanna stay at my weight

Amphetamines will stop the bodies' natural hunger reflex.  That goes away thankfully soon after beginning for most people but some have found that it doesn't come back.

Now that doesn't mean weight loss is inevitable even if you don't regain your natural hunger pangs when truly hungry.  What then would happen is you'd have to become a person who schedules food intake at regular times.  But this is rare so I wouldn't worry.

My natural hunger reflex went away for about 2 months.  I lost about 15 lbs or so and once the natural rythyms of my body came back I regained pretty much most of my weight.  For most it does that quite quickly.  It's one reason why amphetamines were never a good weight loss aid as you have to keep taking more and more to keep the hunger away.  Eventually it just stops.

If you worry about massive weight loss - start a rigid schedule of eating.  Eat 3 square meals a day and set up snacks with high protein like peanuts or soy or other protein that can keep the bulk as high as you can.  If you set it up as a routine then you don't have to wait for the urge to hit.  Many find this a good way to do it.
