New - Pyscholigist ? | ADHD Information
Hi, I am the mother of a 7 year old with ADHD, and he has a brother who is six, non ADHD. He was diagnosed in May, but, we had ideas sense he was an infant. My question is how many of your children see a pyscholigist for the adhd as well? Nathan sees a Neruodevelopmental Dr. who diagnosed him and prescribes the meds.(we are on the 3rd) getting ready to call on that one. Plus he sees a guy who specializes in ADHD, we go see him every Tuesday at 7:30 Am before school. My husband and I rotate taking him to see the pyschologist.
My 10yo daughter has a psychiatrist for diagnosis and med management. Before diagnosis, her anxiety and depression were getting bad and she started seeing a psychologist. During the summer we took a break from the psychologist because with no school, the anxiety went away and she became her old self (and we were seeing the psychiatrist for diagnosis and posible medcation managment). With medication (we are still optimizing), we are seeing an improvement in her interactions in school so we are hoping she has a better year. If we see any indication of renewed anxiety or depression, we will go back to the psychologist.
Vickie, it was suggested that Nate be treated with Meds and with counseling. To help with behavior issues that come with ADHD. We first saw a behavioralist the year before, our pediatrician recommended we take him to see the nero guy, who then recommend the Pyschiatrist. The guy we see weekly has been great with school. He called the school last week as we had an issue with the bus. As for the meds, we are still trying to find the right one.
Early on, the psychologist was working with play therapy for our daughter and was helpful with parenting issues we had for our challenging daugher. She helped us through managing the rages that had started and went over the behavior modification plan that we were working out with the school for getting work brought home and done. When school ended, we discussed changing that plan into Ogram's marble system (another helpful thread on this board) to incorporate more home behaviors. This has really helped with the defiance and with our parent/child relationship. When we last met, the psychologist wrote up a letter for the psychiatrist and the school psychologist and agreed to resume seeing my daughter if she started showing symptoms of anxiety and depression again. It was very useful overall, but not currently needed.
Good luck the meds (for us as well).
