He actually amazes me sometimes with the things that come out of his mouth.  Never in a million years would you think he has a learning disability when you speak with him.  The LD issues are not apparant either whenever he's doing anything he likes or doing something he wants to do.  The only time he has difficulty is when he's in school doing a subject that he has no interest in.  This is what keeps me up at night cause I just don't get it.  Anyone have similar experiences?
But that is exactly what ADD is - it isn't that we can't pay attention it's that we need to be interested in what we are doing in order to maintain focus.  Someone called it Attention inconsistency.  Hyperfocus is there when we are sufficiently stimulated by what we are studying.

I have the same issues with my 7-year-old.  He's actually takes notes written by the teacher out of his backpack and tells me about them the next day.  I've asked his teacher to send me emails from now on which she does.  What amazes me is that he has difficulty learning in school but at times can be a genius when it comes to manipulating adults and knows exactly how to push my buttons to get what he wants. Our kids here are always trying to pull something on Mom. She can see it every time. Why would you want to do something you have a Ld in? To us it is the schools job to improve the ld by bring the child up to level. We believe they don't do this to keep getting their SE monies. Teach with games or software it can help out with the Ld. Ld kids also do better with simpler/ easier directions they understand. The best thing our son has this year is a 3 ring binder with a behavior chart in it. A folder 1 slot for hw,1 slot for Class work. 1 spiral for Communication between Parent/teacher. School provides this for him. The behavior chart lets us know how things went each day. If a bad behavior what it was. A sticker for good behavior. Sounds like a smart kid to me. my son was doing good for over a week so we rewarded him and had a gr8 time over the weekend. well let me take u back to friday he didnt bring his behavior sheet home he said teacher didnt give it to him. mind u shes done that b4 so i beleived him. yesterday he brings me 2 sheets and he was a bad boy friday at school and he admitted to his teacher that he didnt show me the paper. i check his bookbag everyday. he hid his behavior sheet  on the bus and the paper must of been hidden so well it was still on the bus monday. now he has his bike taken away again. i just think the teacher should of called me and let me know what went on she has no problem callin me when he gets out of his seat and givin him lunch det. but i guess im not gonna understand this teacher. so anyways i was so proud of my son for being a good boy and for trying really hard in school but to come to find out he pulled a fast 1 on me. now im back to not trusting him on somethings. How old is your son? I forget. It's so hard for them to "tell" on themselves. We find that when we wipe the slate clean each day and start over, it really helps him feel better about himself.  I hope your son has  agood day today.

my son is 11 but is a few years behind in learning.
