I welcome any comments. My daughter has always been active and hyper. We have starterd her on Concerta 18 mg. Could anyone share with me - how soon should we see a change in her school behaviour. Today was her first day on drug. She is attending a private school with a classroom size of 10 - so I have teachers that have experience dealing with children with ADHD
Any suggestions on handling her as drug wears off? Bedtime challenges?
What is a fair timeframe to judge if dosage is correct?
thanks for you comments
GoLeaf - Your daughter seems extremely young for medication - but that aside - if you are having bed time issues, perhaps insisting on a regular routine. Bath, teeth, toilet, read book, lights out. If she continues to stay awake - explain to her she has to stay awake in her room, not allowed out. This is how I deal with my boy.
Also, although my son is on a different med, his crashing in the afternoons, can be difficult. We deal with these by explaining to him that the meds make him feel this way then he should try to remove himself from situations that are frustrating him. By either going out in the yard or to his room, when he is feeling angry.
You should be able to judge correct dosages after about 2 weeks I believe!
Thank you for you comments.
Well it's been 5 days now and what a difference.
The first 2 days we didn't see a change..........it was like she couldn't control her emotions. She was crying for no reason in the evenings before bed - it was either med had worn off or she couldn't process? Anyway - we are seeing an amazing results now - she is much calmer, doesn't present as much challenge and can actually focus. I have always had craft things availalble to her with little interest. Wow - she is cutting, creating up a storm now - would rather do this than watch TV - even the Wiggles. So for now it seems to be much better - at least mom and daughter have quality time. You are so right - routine is the key
Thanks for your response!
I am so pleased to hear that, Yeah! a success
