Daytrana redness | ADHD Information
My dd was involved in the trials and never got any redness, she is back on it, day 4, and so far so good. She is also quite chunky, so they DID test it on heavier kids. We were told to ONLY place it on the hip, other areas can affect absorption.I fought to get my son on the patch due to a gag reflex and we finally got it, he was the first on with the doctor to try it and I thaught it worked great over the weekend, However the school said he is like night and day with and without the patch, it didnt work on the learning part, went back to the liquid, now my son get the headaches also. My son is fat and I called the company and it was a big waste of time cause they told me they only tested it on "reg" size kids. I even tried to put the patch on the thinest part(his back) and no luck, hope that helps,
I want to let everyone know that I was scared to use the patch because I had heard so much about redness and whelping.
Well i remove her patch at 3:30 every evening and it leaves a redness and whelp, I wash it and dry and put Nuzon gel on it and it is gone by morning...You can't even tell where I had the day before patch. and it's hard to remember what side I had to make a chart and I am only on day 4.
I switch from the upper thigh to the hip and it works just the same and gives you more room to move it around and not put it on the same area that may be the cause of the prolonged redness and whelping.
Thanks for the info Julie. Not to try and scare you, but that's how the first 4 weeks were for us too.
Then, for some reason, the redness starting lasting longer and longer,
until his hips looked like a checkerboard!
The way that I understand it is...that the patch is suppose to cause
redness/irritation. Something in the patch causes the irritation so that
the medication can be absorbed into the skin. Which is why the redness
is considered normal. But, it should disappear within 48 hours. And, for
the first 4 weeks or so, it did. But soon after, they weren't going away
and we were having trouble finding a new, clear spot to put another
patch.
It was such a bummer because the med worked so good. We had a very
low and even come down from the medication in the evening. And, it
really controlled his symptoms during the day. Hope you continue to
have good luck!
