adhd and syblings | ADHD Information
Ha, Ha! I also have a 7 and 6 year old. We also have neighbors with the same. The fights can be pretty bad! For us, we have a set of house rules--just 4 rules so it's easy to remember. And they are posted everywhere around the house. Breaking those rules gets you timeout. Other than that, we separate them a lot. I take one, and dh takes the other one for one-on-one time on the weekends. Sometimes we have to separate them at bathtime at night, also. But they always insist on sleeping together at night. Sibling issues are normal. We are blessed we have 1 girl and 1 boy. They have to say sorry when I interviene and tell them that is not nice. In total transformation he says make the other do the others chore for hurting the other. 1 time a month spend time with each child on their own. Have a Mom/me day and do what that child wants to do. Dad's do the same thing. any ideas for dealing with syblings?? Nate (7) ADHD, Lucas (6) they are 362 days a part. The physical fights that go on.. Nate gets very physical with Lucas bruises and cuts etc.. no broken bones.. it always starts nice then turns ugly... Yesterday, I had to pull them apart several times, Lucas has marks on his neck and face.. No crying but, it looks bad... We use ogram's marble system for positive reinforcement and hitting loses 10 marbles (that is a lot compared to other behaviors). After they have gotten used to the rewards, it is usually easy to remind them how many marbles are at stake. The immpulisivity of ADHD makes it hard for a kid to recognize consequenses.
