Melatonin anyone? | ADHD Information

Our Pediatrician said it was perfectly fine to use it.

I give it to my children 4 & 6.

2 mgs.   I buy the 3mgs regular pills.  Cut a piece off so its about 2mgs.

I have a pill smasher and then I put it in a Little bread with jelly.

In 20 minutes they are snoring.

You know what I hate about my ds falling asleep when I do or even later?  The fact that he's always in my face.  After about 9 pm, I look forward to having some time to myself, but ds is always popping out of his bedroom to find out something or tell us something, or ask us something or..... you name it!

We used melatonin for about 4 nights starting two weeks after we started Daytrana.  Ds had two nosebleeds in one day.  We took him off, but I suppose we could start again if we want to.  We took him to the doc and he said that the nosebleeds happened because his nasal passages were dried out due to allergies.  He's also slightly anemic, and that contributed to it as well.

Yaaaay cheesehead!  Doesn't the occasional win feel terrific?

My son is almost 6 and I can count on one hand the number of times he has slept through the night. I used to get jealous at new moms who would brag that their newborn slept through the night.  I would just pray that some day I would get to that point.

We use vitamins for a company we have been using for years.  (this is NOT an advertisment), but they did not carry the melatonin.  My dh took me out for diner without my ds the other night and there was a health food store nearby.  We decided to stop just to check out if they had melatonin.  Yes, they did have melatonin and the type that melt under their tongue

Well, it hasn't even been a week yet but boy do we see the results.  I don't know what people call sleeping through the night but the second night he took it he slept from 8:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.  I was never so thankfull in my life

Yesterday, he slept from 8:30 p.m. to 4:15 a.m. and I think the only reason he woke up was that we were  having a big storm.  Then he slept from 4:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.

There is light at the end of my tunnel!!! I will be one of those mom's who is bragging that my 5 year old sleeps through the night.  I am a must better parent when I am well rested!!!!

I was a skeptic and now I am a beliver!!!

melatonin is great.  my son used to be impossible to get to sleep. the problem became worse when he started his meds.  the doctor was very persistant that we needed to put him on sleeping pills and even said my refusal to do so was going to stunt his growth.  (we don't see that doctor anymore)  we were told by a friend about melatonin and gave him 3 mg each night 30 mins before bed time.  the sound of snoring never sounded so sweet!  he still wake up once a night but it wasn't 3 times a night like it used to be.

now that he's on different meds and a bit older he doesn't need it.  i'd definately recommend to try this first before going for the prescribed sleeping pills.  :)

We've had success with melatonin too! For YEARS we never had a decent nights sleep & now DD sleeps like a champ so I know how you feel.

Since you're supposed to give the body a break from melatonin every so often, I just now let my DD tell me when she needs one. Sometimes she can go up to a week tired enough to sleep on her own but then has a few nights in a row that she needs the melatonin. Shes 12 so she knows her body enough to decide if she needs help sleeping or not.
