He is to start with 18 mg once a day, and move up to twice a day (or two at one time) and stay at two a day for a few weeks. He's about 70 pounds.
Thank you
When starting Straterra it should be taken at night. This lessens the beginning side effects. Thats also why Straterra should be ramped up slowly to the target dose. It can be taken with Dairy foods.
What dose is your child on? What dose did you start with? what is the target dose?
These things all matter in the ramping period, since it can take several weeks to reach the target dose, and it also takes several weeks AT the target dose to acheive results.
Ok, at 70 lbs his target dose is 37-55 mgs( 1.2-1.8 mgsper kilo).
18 is a high dose to start with, that is why there are Ramp packs, 10 mgs is the lowest dose it comes in, but usually it is better to go by 10 mg increments, instead of jumping from 18 to 36 mgs.
I personally would give it at night, at least for a while and see what happens. When my DD started Straterra we gave it at night for the first several weeks before starting the morning dose.
so far, my son has vomited on 4 stimulant meds (focalin, adderall, metadate and concerta). So, we are finally moving to Strattera. I am looking for info on two things:
1) I know we need to take the Strattera with food. Does anyone if there's a problem taking it with dairy foods?
2) Even though the doc said to take it in the AM, I am soooo leaning towards night time - this way, if it gets him nauseous he'll be asleep.
Thanks in Advance
