twinsmom....your son is probably metabolizing the medication very quickly as the medication is known to work up to 12 hours. As far as the dose, if the dose is working effectively for that 7 hour period, I dont think upping it is the solution but the Phsyc would know best. Please keep us posted
I haven't posted for a long time as I have been busy with the kids and Theo has been doing so well this school year.....That was until last week when we started getting home notes daily. They all are basically the same, saying he has a real tough time in the afternoon. He does well in the mornings, but by 1:30pm he starts falling apart. His teacher says he refuses to do his work, fidgets constantly, bugs the kids around him and cannot sit still. He is on Concerta 27mg in the morning, about 8am and also a Focalin at the same time because the am peak of the Concerta was just not enough for him. My question is does anyone out there have your kids Concerta wearing off after 6 hours or so and does anyone have an opinion on whether or not the Concerta dose should be increased, or should we maybe add a Focalin to be taken about 1pm at school??? The Focalin in the am has a wonderful effect on him and I think that is why his mornings go so smoothly. Focalin is a ritalin-type med where less can be used with the same effects. I have noticed even at home and on the weekends, the Concerta wears off after only 7 hours or so, and then he starts literally bouncing off the couches and chairs. Please,,,,,,, any and all input is needed. I hopefully will hear back from his psych tomorrow, but until then I sometimes trust you guys even more than her.
