Pamelor in children | ADHD Information

Share

Just wondering if any others are using this drug.

My son 'appears' to have all the characterisitics of inattentive ADD but after a trial with stimulants the neuropsychiatrist doesn't feel he has ADD/ADHD.

He has a lot of problems with focusing/attention, but is also quite anxious, easily frustrated and constantly worries. He is his own worst enemy and gets really down on himself if he doesn't perform up to HIS expectation (which is unbelievably high).

We've tried Adderrall which was a nightmare and Statterra which seemed to initially help with the attention but then he became quite depressed and tearful and over time his attention didn't seem to be all that improved so we decided that wasn't the med for him.  The doc seems to think a trial of Pamelor may be helpful for his anxiety and says in about 60% of kids it can also help attention.

Does anyone have any feedback for me?  I hate to keep trying different meds but realize that may be the only way to find one that may actually help him.

Thanks.

Have you tried having him tested for bypolar disorder?Never heard of that med.

We went through a six month process of testing with a neuropsychologist and he exhausted SO many avenues.  He just didn't "fit" with anything.  Whatever the issue is I'm sure my husband has the same thing and his moods are consistent....he just has the inattention.

My son seems very auditorily distracted and we were sure he had some type of auditory processing disorder but testing for that wasn't conclusive either.  He does well with one on one ond OK with small groups.  Put him in a class with 20 others and he's tuned out a lot.

The worrying seems better in the past month or two.  It was really bad at the end of second grade and he was crying a lot at school.

The information I've read about bipolar disorder in children doesn't seem to apply to Ryan.  But then again, I'm totally at a loss and frustrated too!  I just want to help him but realize even if we had an official diagnosis or name to what he has that still wouldn't be the fix it ticket.  I realize that within a specific diagnosis there are many variations in symptoms and treatment.

Thanks for letting me vent.
