has anyone ever heard of kava kava? Its a root that grows on islands like Hawaii and Fiji. It is used to make a drink that makes you feel really relaxed and mellow. It literally makes you forget about the stress of the day and helps you to concentrate on high-stress activities. You can take it in pill form as a daily suppliment, you can buy tinctures that you use to put drops of it under your tongue, or you can buy powder to make a drink. There are warnings about possible liver damage, but scientists have found that the liver toxins are located in the plant's bark and leaves, not the root itself. I doubt its more dangerous than a glass of wine. But its a lot better to use kava when you are feeling depressed, than to drink yourself into stupor. I have been using it for a few months now, whenever I'm having the downs. It really really helps. I used to use kava kava too, and will admit to being a little spooked by the liver talk. A friend told me about Valerian Root instead. She has tried everything too, and said that it's quick acting and really does the job. I bought the liquid form. I squeeze an eyedropper full into a glass of water and w/in about 15 min. I'm feeling quite mellow. I'm not a fan of alcohol to relax either. I'm too prone to depression, so it's never a good choice for me. Also, I'm trying to stay away from Xanax; natural is also my first choice before meds. That said, if it's a really hairy situation (visiting my relatives, for example) bring on the Xanax! ![]() |
