Concerta and Vitamins? | ADHD Information
We use Nautre made 1200 mgs omega3's( fish oils) . DD takes them and also uses daytrana,we have used omega's with all her meds.
You need to make sure that you are giving a dose that is equivalent to 720 EPA/480 DHA, I prefer high-EPA for a couple of reasons. Newer research seems to show that high-EPA formulas are more effective in treating ADHD. Not sure why. I can post links to specific studies if anyone is interested. Most important (to me), the high-EPA is what works for my son. DHA only formulations don't seem to do much for him. So I stick with what works. It's important to take a Vitamin E capsule along with your Omega-3. Not only does the Vitamin E aid with Omega-3 metabolism, its antioxidant function helps protect against free-radical damage as the oil is broken down. Some experts recommend a 100IU capsule with each dose of Omega-3, others recommend 200IU. We use the 100IU capsules. (They're very cute and tiny.)
No matter what brand you use make sure you get the right amount, and remember, it can take 12 weeks to correct an omega deficiency. Coromega is a good brand, and is orange flavored, it is a thick liquid, my DD would rather a cpsule, but some kids prefer liquids.
What vitamins is your son on??
No the concerta doesn't last the full 12 hours...I think at first it might have, but not anymore. My dd is on the lowest dose so I'm thinking she might need an increase...but I've heard such good things about vitamins that I'm trying to look into them more. I wish there was a neuroscience dr here but there isn't...I prefer liquid supplements cause can be hidden in juices and go straight to the blood. Pills are less absorbed also. I try and get soft gels cause they can be opened and rubbed into bottom of feet. This gives a fast delivrey as we learned in a oils class. The nerves in the feet go staright to the brain. Can be done while person is sleeping. I wish all meds/vitamins came in the tablets that just evaporate when put in the mouth. No, the vitamins is all our son does we do them first thing when he get's up. When we tryed medacine I gave right before leaveing the house. So lasted for home work time. I also did that to avoid the stomach problem he was haveing at school. Strattera made him ill. Does that medaicine really help out and does it last the full 12 hrs? I was told we could try that med. I said no he is doing well with just the vitamins. His 3 vitamins come from neuroscience inc. dr. prescribed. He had his transmitter test done first. Then the test told you what is suggested. He is on these 3 endotrex for mood swings 2 times daily, travor nightly, calmprt 2 times a day 2 pils daily. Working great his teacher says. Ours his our sons allergist. He is MD/alternative dr. Try Body balance it's cheaper and his made from organic whole foods. I would do 4 cap fulls a day. Cheaper and more vitamins than neuroscience. I could afford body balance more. The other 3 iteams 135. a month. Body balance 29. a bottle.
Does anyone know if it is o.k. to have a child on Concerta AND vitamins (omega 3)??
She's been on Concerta and it was helping for about 6 months and now it is starting to not work...I've been told that the vitamins DO help but that they take time to work... My doctor is of no help with the omega 3 and ADHD...
Any advice/help would be great!!
Thank you,
Jenn
