adderall depression | ADHD Information

I have been taking Adderall for about 5 years know. I have tried lots of other meds also. One of the many side effects of adderall is depression. Adderall only last about 4-6 hours. So what you are experenceing the rebound.  Something you might want to do is start lower dose twice in the day.  With me if have found that if i take a larger does in the morning and a small dose in the afternoon. I can sleep and night, i hungry for dinner, and i do not get that rebound.

ALso keep in mind if you are only taking it every once in a wile your body is going to have more of a rebound or withdraw then if you take it every day. It is very important to take it the same time during the day also. If your body thinks that you are going to take it and you do not you will begain to withdraw bring out your ADHD traits more then ever.

Don't give up. It sucks trying out new meds and finding out what works for you. Well good luck. if you have any questions about Adderall feel free to e-mail me.

We just took my son off Adderall because we suspected that it was causing depression.  He was getting severly depressed.  Since we took him off, we've seen no signs of it at all.  Now we're trying Staterra...pulling our hair out until it kicks in.So I seem to experience a decrease in mood, and just overall brightness
about 5-6 hours after taking my adderall. (amphetamine salts) This is
different than what people seem to explain as "coming down" because I
never really feel high or anything like that from adderall. It just helps me to
start tasks that I would otherwise be frustrated with. Anyway, I only take it
about 2-3 times a week, so it's not a huge deal. But I'm wondering if
anybody else has any knowledge of this experience. Also, has anybody
experienced this and had more sucess with another ADHD drug? Thank you
very much.

Same exact thing happened to me.  I tried taking more and switching to a low dose twice a day.  I did not feel the depression at 10mg but I also did not feel that focused.  It was an awful feeling and not worth it just feel focused.  It started happening to me about 4 or 5 hours after taking the Adderall xr.  I don't think it was crashing it was more like peaking.  I felt great once it was out of my system.

Your doc will probably tell you to try something different.  You just have to find the drug that's right for you.

My doc switched me to concerta yesterday.  I started with 18mg today and will do 36 tom.  So far 18 has had no effect.  I had posted about this exact same thing a few days ago.

yeah thats the same with me. althuogh i feel crappy 5-6 hours afterwards,
8-10 hours later I feel fine again. Let me know how concerta goes for you.
I'm thinking about taking one in the morning (10 mg) and one in the
afternoon (10mg) instead of one and a half (15mg) in the morning.

So far I feel nothing on 18mg but tom I will go up to 36mg of Concerta.

I tried the twice a day low dose of Adderall Xr and it hardly worked at all.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Adderall does make you feel depressed when it wears off, the usual 4-6hrs after taking it.  I also tried Adderall XR 20mg, and it didn't work for me either.  I hate the way adderall makes me feel, but I have no choice because the benefits outweigh the side effects.
