Anyone tried Ritalin on "as needed" basis | ADHD Information
try to allow it time to work. Then perhaps you are a good candidate for med holidays - take one week off for every two months on . It works very well for me and not only is my dexedrine still working after 2 years - I'm still on the dose I started 3 months into the treatment.
Get therapy as well. Cognitive therapy teaches new skills so that when you can't feel the med's benefits you'll have tools to cope.
When I took ritalin, I only took it on an as needed basis, I didn't take it everyday only on bad days, it worked well for me but I quit taking it because it also made me feel fluish when it wore off even if I took another dose, got tired of feeling sick. But you might try it. yeah i did it on a as needed basis. 10, 20mg/day.
did NOTHING for me. slipped into massive depression for 5 months.
then bumped dosage up to DAILY 2x20 or 3x20. it's on the high end, and
my life isn't really normal. my mind still wanders. but regular ritalin's at this
dosage is the only thing that's had helped so far.
it even helps me relax enough to doze off.I have learned SO much from reading these postings.
I've been diagnosed with ADD, no H, or at least not much. After 1 year on
ADDERALL I've gotten the rebound thing and depression, and stopped taking
it. I tried Ritalin but also got rebound after two weeks. However, Ritalin
worked very well at first.
What if I tried it in smaller doses, like say 10-20mg during the worst part of
my day, and not at all when I work at home and don't need to perform as
well? Would not taking it all the time maybe help with the rebound? My doc
started me on 60mg, and now that I've read a lot, it seems like a lot to start.
I've tried higher protein diet, cut sugar/caffine, citrus, counseling, Chinese
Herbs, acupuncture---nothing helped but the meds. Except exercise. But
you can't dance ALL day! Thanks. I am currently on a taking as needed basis. For me, it works great, but forewarnign: taking ritilan or adderall in this way can really mess with your head. If you have any history of mental illness I would strongly suggest against it. I had a bit of a problem the first two years I began taking it on a needed basis rather than scheduled everyday. It may lead to some mental problems, i.e. (worst case scenerio) split personality. I began to feel symptoms like that, but then I started researching and was able to pull myself out of the "crazy world" However, now i have been ttaking it on a needed basis for about 3 years, and it has been working great. I do feel sick sometimes like psychgirl, but I have learned to not notice it. Just be careful, if you ever begin to feel mentally unstable, stop doing it. Good luck
I do it for financial reasons, as I'm self insured.
That means I've got no insurance.
My doc tells me it's illegal to take it as needed, and that he won't write a prescription as such.
