Annoyed | ADHD Information

If you read my previous posts on this board you will know my child has severe adhd which up until now has not been helped by ritain.Last week he was expelled from school even though they know he has a statement of special needs which gives them extra funds.I had a meeting with education yesterday and they told me Cameron can go back to school for just 2 hours a day ! Thats no good to me or him.They also said it will be after christmas when they can get him into special school he is almost 7 and cant read or even write his name yet and can only count to 7!Im disgusted to be honest.They just kept going on about social workers ( been there done that) and for me to ask anyone i could for help..what do they think i have been doing!Im just really annoyed if i was self employed id refuse to pay tax!

 

Do you live in the US? I can't believe that it's legal for them to expell a child with special needs!  Is yours a small school district? Maybe they think you don't know what your son is entitled to under various provisions. I'd find legal help.  They are sometimes willing to do it for free if you are strapped.They can't deny him a education even without medacine. Report this to your state education and DEA. Why was he expelled. I live in England, and it is illegal I agree, they expelled him but then took him back saying he can do 2 hours a day until they find him a special school..but after christmas is no good to us we need one now im fighting it all the way:) I would definitely seek Legal help on this.  If he has an IEP stating he has problems the school should not expel him.  As far as him being 7 and not being able to read or write is the school's fault so you may not want to send him back there anyway.  If you can prove that the school has been unable to teach your son, they are obligated (by law) to pay for him to go to a private school where your son can be taught and not for just 2 hours/day.  They should not be calling the shots here.  Your first step is to go the Superintendent of Schools and logde a formal complaint.  I would than call the Departement of Special Education for the State that you live in and seek their advice.  I would then get a lawyer.  If you don't advocate for your son, noone else will and what they are doing is inexcusable.  What state are you in? 

I  am not familiar with Engand and your special education system...do you have a lawyer or advocate that you can contact? 

your paedatrician should be able to help,when we had a meeting last year about jude's future,there was his teachers,the paedatrician,the health visitor,me and the educational psychologist,they decided on an IEP,there is an extra teacher in the classroom to help him integrate better and to concentrate on tasks,then again,in scotland we seem to have more help than you.Why was he expelled? Can't they get someone to come into your home to teach  your son for he is missing a lot of education and most likely will be repeating the grade. 

WHAT ABOUT A CHILD PSYCHOLOGIST FROM THE CHILDREN MENTAL HEALTH DEPARTEMENT AND BEHAVIORAL PSYCHOLOGIST IN A SPECIAL NEED CLINIC?

WE HAD THESE IN SCOTLAND AND MY SON SEES HIS CHILD PSYCHOLOGIST EVERY 6 WEEKS.

yes waiting for a referal to chams.Everything is so slow though.behavioural therapist said yesterday she has tried everything she knows in the way of techniques non have worked and she is lost! all stressful to me..everything is miles away also and i cant drive and buses are hard work with single prams nvm double ones.

i really don't have any thing to offer in words, but i will pray that this process speeds up for you and you and your family finds a relief valve.  I feel for you!!  You are in the right spot when it comes to support on line, these people here really do care and want to help!  my prayers and thoughts are with you!

HE swore at the teacher,kicked her spat at her n smashed the school up he deserved to be expelled but to then not give him an education is beyond me.All he has had done is the questionaires for adhd where he scored maximum.Has been evaluated my ed psych and thats about it. I am curious what type of testing has been done and if a complete neuropsychological evaluation has been done.  I would assume so since the school has allowed it to go this far.  Can you fill me in? Do you have MANIFEST DETERMINATION in England? That's a legal requirment that they have to meet before expelling an SE child in the USA.

then they can really access him properly,maybe it is more than ADHD.i know buses are a really nightmare,i hate them and i have to take them whem hubby is away offshore.i am still trying to get my driving licence

They dont repeat grades in england he will just fall more and more behind.He is 7 this is his 3rd year at school and he cant even write his name.Medication isnt helping,and even though they admit he is more like a 3 year old with what he can do they wont test him for learning difficulties.I have asked about a home tutor but i have 2 children under 2 and was told no  one will be prepared to work in my home with him why my children are there.Im real mad.I dont seem to be getting anywhere to be honest.Hes going backwards not forwards.I rang the doctor but has no appointments until End of Nov n no one else can treat him as u have to be refered here to a specialist by a gp and he is only doc in my area,Grrrr so annoyed! HAVE YOU CONSIDERED BUPA?

Sounds like you are trying quite hard to get help for your son.  I suggest that you keep on bugging the people who are telling you NO...( make yourself a pest) and ask them to help you or tell you who can help you.  We have a saying here in the USA, The squeeky wheel gets the grease...so Keep on being that squeeky wheel. I would call everyday till they got sick of hearing from me. 

I am sure they have special education ( I used to work for a professor who took a group of college students from the USA to observe the SPED program in England) in your country you I can't believe they are giving you such a run around...
