You have to laugh | ADHD Information

So, thr other night  I told my ds to go get ready for bed while I read to his little sis.  After about 5 min. I called up and told him to pick up his legos.  I could here him doing it and went back to reading.  Well, shortly before I finish reading I see him walk down stairs with a spaceship he's built from legos.  I doesn't really register at the moment, but then I walk past his room on the way to tuck in his sister and see that he's barely picked up half the legos.  So I start feeling a little annoyed and when I go find him he's wearing his pj top with the shorts he wore all day, hasn't brushed his teeth (kinda my fault for not telling him specifically) and he's playing with a lego ship.  Ahhhh!

After I send him upstairs to finish getting ready I go downstairs and start to tell my dh what happened and as I start saying it out loud I realize how absolutely hysterical the whole thing was.  Poor kid was only half way dressed when I told him to clean up, then he got distracted and built a really cool ship, and now he's totally confused cause he doesn't know why I'm annoyed.

So we were still laughing when ds comes back downstairs, leans around the doorframe and asks "Mommy, did you forget to give me my ritalin this morning?"

Laughing really does help when you get stressed and when you stop to think about some of the things our kids do it really is funny.

I think laughing is the only way we survive.

Yesterday morning my son spilled oatmeal on his bed pillow (he carries it
around with him in the morning). I told him to wipe it off, then take the
pillowcase off and put it out, meaning throw it in the hamper in the
garage, by the washing machine. For once he didn't argue, so I turned my
back and finished making lunches. I realized that he hadn't walked past
me to the garage, so I turned in time to see him heading out the front
door! I wish I had let him go to see what he would have done... thrown it
on the front lawn?

Another time in response to "Put your jacket on, put your backpack on,
grab your lunch, let's go." He put his jacket on, put his backpack on,
grabbed his lunch, and walked across the dark living room and down the
hallway. I followed him to see how far he would go. He stopped outside
the bathroom and just looked completely baffled. At this point I needed
the bathroom because I was laughing so hard. He had no idea why he had
done this.

He IS going to outgrow this, right? Hopefully before middle school...I laugh at my child every day, the things he says and does, they are so cute!

jaderock54,

You just described my son...right down to the lego space ship....

I chuckled at my 13 yr old today.  He got dressed for Judo and it wasn't until he got home that I realized he had worn his gi pants wrong side out the entire time! He STILL sometimes put his underwear on wrong, shirts on backwards, etc.  I just have to laugh about it now and wonder if he'll do this when he's 22 !
