Side affects after 2 years????? | ADHD Information

i WOULD HAVE THE KID CHECKED FOR FOOD ISSUES. MY SISTER NEVER WENT POTTY IN SCHOOL ONLY AT HOME. THESE MEDS CAN MAKE STOMACH PROBLEMS. NATURAL STUFF TAKES LONGER THAN A FEW WEEKS.

He never held it before in his life.  Dr thinks it's just taking him time to adjust to kindergarten.  He really shouldn't have problems as he's been in daycars since he was 2 months old.  Maybe because he's realizing "school" is different from "daycare" in that you really can't just decide to not go anymore.  You have to. He's been doing wonderfully this past week. We've been extra positive with him and praise all the good points, but explaing why something's wrong for bad happenings. We try not to get upset with him.  He's still very whiny and cries easily, but I think he's reaizing that he can cry and sometimes get what he wants, when it normally would be NO.  I hope I didn't jinx myself by bragging on his good week.  Wish me luck. I'll need it....I was born a MURPHY...

First off, welcome to the boards!

I highly doubt that it would be the meds if he has been on them for 2 years. I would look to alternate causes, as it seems you have done. Slight variations in his diet may be causing the constipation....or is he holding it when he has to go, and thus getting a tummy ache when he gets all backed up? Years ago, I babysat a little girl who used to hold it FOREVER and then get tummy aches.

Good luck with everything and keep us posted!

I have a 5 1/2 year old son who is taking 15mg of Adderall XR once a day (am). December 2006 will be 2 years that he's been on it.  He was diagnosed at 3 1/2 only after hints from daycare (brochures in his cubby, etc.) At first my husband and I were offended, then we researched it a bit...tried the "natural approach" and the vitamins or natural store supplements only worked for a couple weeks maximum, then it was like flipping a switch.

Ritalin had no effect on him (stopped it after 20mg 2 X's daily). Went to Adderall 15mg and it seems to work exactly 8 hrs.

Lately, he's been complaining of upset tummy, very-very-very emotional (more whining and crying) like I don't know what. He was reething in pain 2 of the past 3 days with constipation and after 2 saposatory doses, he looked to be back to normal. Of course during the "sick" days, no meds were given. We gave him his usual dose yesterday morning as Friday was the turning point of feeling better. He acted normal, slept well, and seemed okay this morning. We went to movie @ 3:20 and didn't make it thru the 1hr 40min. He laid on 2 seats next to me and complained he didn't feel good again.

Does or Did anyone have this problem?  Can it be that he's finally having some side affects after 2 yrs.????????

My son had the same problems, but it was after only 1 month.  No constipation.  Ask your doc.   If you give the meds with food, it should help with the upset stomach.

Thanks crazymom..... My hubby and I were discussing my son's dislike for kindergarten and the pediatrician feels the same in that he is causing anxiety over the issue of going to school (he says it's boring) and therefore making his own stomache upset.  We'll watch him anyway.  Thanks for the insight.  I have never posted on a forum EVER and feel it's good place to vent and share.  I welcome any other advice.
