How is it going macsmom
Good luck today
You will have to call the Dr. who will have to write a new prescription. Save all the meds. that he doesn't use because you may be able to use them later and will save $. For example my son takes (2) 36 mgs of concerta for a total of 72mgs.
The increase will be a different color pill. Just post what is happening tomorrow and we will respond. Remember he will lose his appetite and sleep may be tough so be prepared. My son eventually, and I mean a while, leveled off even in the food and sleep departments, just give it time!
When you find the right one that works at the right dose, you will see a wonderful change for you son in his daily life!
Hang in there!!

Im off tomorrow, and Im keeping him out of school so I can keep an eye on him his first day on the meds. He has enver had to take anything more than Tylenol or antibiotics his whole life (5yrs)..and Im nervous. His pediatrician said it takes up to 3-4 weeks to see a change, but ive read here it can be seen teh same day. What should I expect? He is taking 18mg of Concerta around 8 am. Wish us luck. I explained to him tonight that I was keeping him out of school tomorrow so we can try his new medicine. He asked what it was for, and I told him its to help him be better behaved and do better at school. I asked if he understood that, and he said yes and is anxious to take it. I hope this helps him....us....its been a rough 5 yrs with this little guy. Ill let you all know how it goes![QUOTE=macsmom]Im off tomorrow, and Im keeping him out of school so I can keep an eye on him his first day on the meds. You will notice any changes with in the first 30/60 minutes max! How long it lasts depends on how fast he metabolises(spellg?). You will know if you need an increase in the dosage quickly as well. 18mgs. is low, so you may need an increase, don't wait a month for the change, do it immediately. It took us a long time to get the meds and dosage right so hang in there. Just curious, why didn't you do this over the weekend, just wondering?
Like bethann said, you will know tomorrow if the med works. If there are any side effects, they will go away tomorrow as well. One thing to watch for is rebound after the meds wear off. My 58lb daughter is on 27mg of concerta and doing well.
Good point about the rebound Vickie! I also wanted to add that my son is 90lbs and taking 72mgs daily. He is 9 and quickly went up the mg. dosage once we found concerta to the best med. for him. He has been at this dosage for almost 2 years now. He did suffer rebound for a while, but it seemed to level off after awhild. I found feeding him helped, especially sugar. He would have a chocolate bar when he came home from school, like as if his blood sugar was low.
Please let us know how you both are making out!
