I didnt expect it this soon, but he's coming down off the meds. Started about an hour to an hour and 1/2 ago. It was our first "melt down" of the day, so all in all not a bad day for us. He seems to be having them easier tho than he did off the meds, seems more "hurt" by whatever is upsetting him, if that makes sense. For instance, he got upset that he couldnt climp the tree in teh yard, ahd a total FIT over this and was really hurt about it. Then an incident with the neighbor girl She said he was kicking her on teh trampoline...which is very possible knowing him, and he came in saying she was lying basicaly and was hurt that she was saying such a thing. Is this normal? I called his ped and told her i thought he was crashign kind of soon, she said its normal and to give it a couple of weeks before looking into upping the dosage. All in all tho it was a MUCH better day than usual. I was just AMAZED at this kids behavior today!
Hey there! How was school for him? I hope it went as well as his day at home. My son does well on Concerta, however, we moved up the dosage amount often. So when your son's day does not seem good and he is back to the old ways, he just needs an increase in the dosage. I also found my son had the rebound and he like chocolate, and he landed smoothly. Mine was really starving from not eating. We also let him stay up later so we could keep feeding him. After 2 years on med. (started at almost 7, he is now 9) he is a great eater and no more sleep issues for the most part!
Best wishes!
Woo Hoo, glad you're seeing good results! I'm very happy for you!Great start!!!!
Yes, this is common. We can always tell when Jeremy is starting to come down off his meds. He starts getting overly emotional over the least little thing. Still, it sure beats the alternatives! The rebound can get better as he adjusts to the meds leaving his system, if not there are adjustments that can be made. Then, if the med doesn't last long enough (through homework or other activities) your doctor may give a stronger dose, add a second dose of concerta, or add a short acting form. There are so many ways to adjust the meds to the needs of an individual. Do not be afraid of having meds in his system around bedtime-that actually helps many to sleep (shuts off the noise and is calming). What is hard, is rebound just before bed. Also, as your son grows and his activities and needs change, you will need to adjust the meds to those needs.
Good to hear of your good start, it will be interesting to see how he does in school.
macsmom, this is good news. sometimes eating something will help the rebound.
I hope school goes well for him tomorrow
You've got my prayers for a good school day, too!
